Removing hydraulic piston rod - John Deere 5500

I have a 540 front loader on a John Deere 5500 that has a bad seal. I watched several videos on “YouTube University” and ordered a seal kit online based on my loader model number. The problem I’m running into is the cylinder does not have an indentation/groove for the orange plastic insert to go into. The cylinder has a raised ring on the inside where videos show it having a groove. Does anyone have any tips or do I have a peculiar model? I appreciate any help! The pictures should show the raised ring on the inside of the cylinder I have. I have tried just about everything to pull this thing apart, but it has to be something wrong with the ring/plastic insert.

Looks like a standard wire ring to me. I think you need to pick that out first before attempting to pull the rest out,

Ok. I will try that in the morning. The ring didn’t really seem to move at all. I was a bit apprehensive to prod at it, or anything, since it was inside the cylinder. Thanks Harry.

They don't move easily. It may take some effort to get it loose and get an end out of the groove, but it should come out. Before I put anything back in I polish the inside of the barrel around the groove with a die grinder and one of these.
