removing gravel

i am trying to remove really hard packed gravel from my driveway with a kubota b7100 with the loader and i am not really getting anywhere, i tried using the toothbar and still nothing, anybody have any ideas, thanks

if you have a box blade you might try using the rippers down 1 or 2 notches that way it breaks up the packed surface otherwise you are going to be in trouble.

i have a box blade, but it is homemade and it doesnt have rippers

would getting it wet help loosen it up enough to dig down further

I think the B7100 is just too light to have any effect on hard packed gravel... Is there a farm nearby that has a heavy cultivator, chisel or ripper ?

I had a larger tractor with a Back Hoe come in and break up part of my drive once.

A box blade with the rippers down will do the job of breaking it up.

Have you tried the loader with toothbar pointed straight down? This is how I broke up some ground where I put in my rain garden. My 4010 probably isn't much heavier than your B7100.

i tried the toothbar going forward angled down, but not trying to drag backwards, i think the gravel is just too packed down from driving on it over the years, but i will try

Try getting under the edge of it. Compacted gravel has allot of strength as long as it's in place, but when you get under it, you can break it up real easy. Concrete works this way too, but it's not as easy.

For pipe or conduit, I use a pick and start at the edge. I dig under the gravel and into the dirt, and it just falls apart. Then I just keep working my way across. I can cross my gravel driveway in an hour this way.
