For lack of a better description the dashboard of my gt275needs replaced. The steering wheel, brake, lights, etc all come thru it and will need to be removed. Anyone ever done this before? Thanks. What looked to be easy is now very diffucult.

First remove the battery to get access to the rear of the dash, parking brake bracket, etc.

Carefully remove the left and right lower trim pieces that the hood closes on top of at the base of the steel center column. There are two tabs on each of them that fit into the steel column. Pull back gently on the trim piece and then push down on the tabs one at a time with a screwdriver and slip the tabs out of the holes. Carefully wiggle the bottom of the piece as you pull upwards after disengaging the tabs and the will lift out of place. Slide the driver left trim piece up and over the implement lift lever.

Then pull the steering wheel off - it comes off with one bolt through the base of the steering wheel through the steering column. You will need to take a punch and drive it through the steering wheel as it is textured and will not simply push out.

Disconnect all of the wiring by pulling the connectors off of the back of the switches. You do not need to disconnect the voltage regulator as it is attached to the steel column. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark the cable first with a magic marker under the the small bracket that holds it in place. That will help you when you replace the cable as you will know how far down from the bracket the cable should extend.

There is also a wiring harness tab on the parking brake side of the steel column at the mid-point of the side of the column. It is a small round tab sticking through the side of the center column. If you use needle nose pliers you can squeeze on the small tabs that hold it in place and push it through the hole in the column. The only reason you need to do that is it will free up the wiring and allow you to access the parking brake assembly better and allow you to pull up on the PTO switch, etc. - basically it will give you more room to maneuver things in back of the dash.

It may be easier to undo the starter key switch from the dash by removing the screw-on retaining ring from the front of the switch. Once the retainer ring is unscrewed, the switch will push through the hole in the dash and the switch will not impede lifting the dash over the steering column.

The same for the PTO pull switch. There are small tabs at the top and bottom of the switch. If you use two screwdrivers you can disengage the tabs. Gently lift the bottom of the switch with one screwdriver, and once it it raised about 1/8-inch, push the tab inward with a second screwdriver and lift + pivot the switch upwards and the top tab should clear the opening without pushing on it. If it hangs up, repeat the same thing at the top of the switch by carefully pushing in the tab. Once you have access to the back of the switch, pull off the connector & push the wiring back through the hole.

There is a spring on the parking brake that goes from the back of the red paddle handle to a hole in the steel center column - remove the spring. Disconnect the parking brake by removing the bolt assembly (bolt / bushing / nut) at the base of center column on the parking brake side of the column. This frees up the parking brake bracket. Then remove the two bolts on each side of the center column that hold the plastic dash in place. At this point if you very carefully wiggle and lift the dash unit you can lift the entire unit off of the tractor.

Once it is off of the tractor you can easily remove the throttle handle assembly and the parking brake assembly.
