I have a pin stuck in the arm ball joint of the three point hitch on my BX1860. I had to use some force putting on the attachment this pin came from (I removed the attachment by unbolting the pin from the attachment to make it easier to work on removal). I need some advice on best methods for removing this pin. I'm going to douse it with WD40 and try my 3 pound hammer again, but I suspect I need some sort of gear puller. That's complicated by the layout, however.

Thoughts? Ideas? All welcome.

Maybe a manufacturing chip, bit of wood or bit of grit got wedged between the pin & the Heim fitting?
I'd try a little heat, applied to the pin to help work some grease into the joint - not so much that you coke the grease.
Then start rapping on the pin with your hammer as everything is cooling down.
Not real hard, but rappid, solid raps.

I too would vote for a little heat. But I would only rap it with a block of wood or brass hammer. Once you get the pin out, I would check the surface of the ball's inside. If it is a little rough, rub with a little emery cloth.

If the heat doesn't work. Harbor Freight sells a nice little gear puller complete with a bearing splitter for around 40 bucks (I think). Pretty sure it would get the job done. Then you have the puller for the next time something happens.

Take the arm off (3 pins IIRC) so that you can put it on a workbench or something to hold it still while you "tap" on it.

I would remove the arm, and place it in a vice with the pin oriented vertically threads down. Soak some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench (better than WD40 IMHO) and bang on it with a hammer and block after some soaking. The block might not be necessary, but will prevent mushrooming of the pin. If you do mushroom it, it is tapered and will still likely be usable ... or can be replaced.

If you have a bearing splitter, try that between the pin and left-hand side (in your photo) of the hein to see if you can break the pin loose and then just tap it out.

Let us know if you figure out why it got stuck.

Short piece of pipe large enough to clear the shoulder on the pin. Slip it over the threaded end. Add a flat washer. Put the nut on and tighten. Should pull right off.

If you have any Kroil or Fluid Film, I would try that first. Kroil is great stuff. It's a million times better than WD40.

Can't tell from picture, but is there slack in the lift arm to swing out?
