Reminder of what can happen in a flash

When GM introduced the first 'production' airbags in the 1973 Chevy Impalas, it saved the bag covers from most of the crashes that took place with that fleet. You can see the driver's face in them" Makeup, hair, nose and teeth marks. I worked in the lab doing the analysis of these crashes.

The surprize finding was the number of people who sued the company because their face was scratched or their glasses were broken and/or teeth chipped or ear drums blown. Not to mention that they felt they would have been better off taking the steering wheel or windshield directly...

There is this simulator of car impact - I saw it years ago overseas. They would let you sit in it during a crash and it was your choice seat belts or not. Very interesting, you would say "sure, I can hold myself against the steering wheel on impact 30 kmh" LOL, they would let it go 20 kmh and no matter how much you braced yourself, it still hurt like nobody's business.

I always wear seatbelts and still this was very educating.

Thank you, to those that took the time to check it out, and a BIG thank you to the moderators for letting it stay . I do understand it is graphic but as someone said, if it can save one life it is worth it. Sometimes I think folks today rely on the safety equipment entirely to much and forget THEY ARE THE OPERATOR{which is the most important safety device}. I watch good people all the time do stupid things like texting checking makeup in the mirror looking under their seat for a CD all while driving. A spilt second can change a persons/peoples life even if they didn't intend to.

I got into one of those while in the military, wore all the protective gear and still ended up with a fat lip :D

thanks Dave for the old film. Years back someone I know hit a car that did not stop for a stop sign. The car{couple of young ladys} spun into a ditch and caught fire. The person I know tried to get them out but could not........ well most can figure the rest of what happened {VERY sad}.

There is only so many time a person can dodge a bullet. Lately around here there are 20 somethings who are desperate to make the train station to NYC (I know this, because trying to get there faster is generally unsuccessful, so eventually I see them take the train exit ramp.).

Last one ran a red light nearly took the front off my truck-- would have if I hadn't seen him just in time to slow down enough that he passed with 2' to spare... that's way too close, I could clearly see the shape of the guy's dangling earrings.

Hopefully they only smash up their own cars before learning their lesson. Really sad when innocent bystanders have to pay a price.

I lived a situation where 2 people died. A car lost control on a stormy snowy, icy road and came into my lane. Nothing I could of done for I was in a big rig and it just happened so fast. There is not a day that goes by that I don't relive it but I thank God that there was nothing I could of done to prevent this.
Bad enough to live with this without having to blame yourself for a lack of attention, speeding or whatever reason. Guys if watching this video can save one life than it's worth it. Makes us all think! Believe me it can happen to anyone.

Ron, you are living my worst nightmare. My biggest fear as a commercial driver is what someone may do in front of me next. I have brought this up many times in my training, "If you stay upright, you don't have to worry who started it, you're the one that will have to live with it."

Very sorry.

E

Thankyou for posting that video. Very, very difficult to watch, but a good reminder to us all.
