I’ve read a lot of WW2 history and bounce around a lot on topics. I know the story the OP posted about but haven’t read anything specific about. There was 3 different battles taking place all about the same time. The Japanese were beaten badly at 2 of the 3. The one the OP posted about was a tactical victory for the US since they turned back.
