I am a Mercedes fan myself. My wife drives an E320 with 220,000 miles and no major issues, 6000 to 8000 between changes. I have a CLS500 with 26,000 miles, 10,000 miles or 1 year between changes. I use synthetic in both.
Mine's been good to me - I have a number of friends with them (Sprinters) with mileages ranging from 400K to over 800K. These are the older Sprinters with the inline 5 cylinder engine.

If you read back in the posts, you will see where I wrote that my dealer strongly recommended that I not use synthetic in my B26. He said maybe in a different model, but definitely not in a B26. Still to this day that comment makes no sense to me.
It doesn't to me either - at least not without some additional info.

What was his reasoning ?

I do know that for the CTD in my RAM pickup Cummins recommends no synthetic oil until the engine is broken in - which could be up to 20K miles or more, depending on whether you're towing or hauling with it (not working it makes break-in take longer)

I didn't want to take any chances, since it was my first 50hr oil change, so I went with Kubotas brand, but I definitely want to use synthetic from here on. That is unless I find definite proof that I shouldn't.
I'd ask if that was blanket prohibition for the life of the machine ..... or just for break-in ?

FWIW, I didn't start running synthetic in my B2910 until after the first couple hundred hours. I'm been running Rotella ... but I think I'm gonna switch to Mobil 1 0w40 ..... which will simplify things (one oil for all the vehicles) and I know it's a good oil.
