Refinished 46" deck

Just wanted to post some pics of the work I did to my deck. I knew it was a little beat up and rusty but realized just how bad it was after I removed it to sharpen the blades. It needed some serious TLC. I stripped it down to metal by various frustrating means. If I do this again, I'm just going to pay the sandblaster or maybe learn how to do that at home.

All in all it turned out pretty good. It's not perfect but eh... it's a mower deck. It will at least defer the purchase of a different/faster mowing machine to take care of a few acres.

Looks good. Was there any "rust thru" holes that you had to fix first?

Thanks. There was pitting but it wasn't awful. No rust made it even close to all the way through.

Just doing mine now. Not as bad cosmetically as yours, I just cleaned an repainted the underside. Only has one jackshaft, but seems like I will be replacing all the bearings and one plastic bushing on one of the idlers. That seems to have gone up in smoke and ash due to heat from the frozen bearing. I just got new idlers complete as seemed cheaper overall.

Pardon my ignorance but what's a jackshaft? In case you're referring to the spindle near the discharge on mine, that's to run a powerflow blower.

I got it hooked up and mowed for an hour. It worked great. Much better than before.

The double pulley deals. I think that's what they are called.
