Thanks Terry!

Next up should be the SWAG off-road press brake kit.

Starting to have too many tools for my 28x28 shop...I guess there are worst problems to have!

Looks good but two problems as I see it.

First thing. You shouldn't have welded the castors on to the frame. Should have bolted them. If you need to replace one its a lot of work now which leads to the second issue.

Rubber castors have a tendency to develop flat spots when sitting for a long time with a heavy item on top of them making the item hard to roll. They also pick up debris from the shop floor easily in their rubber making the item hard to roll.

Chemicals and time can also break down the rubber compound in them making the item they are on very unstable and essentially unsafe.

The solution is to use castors with steel wheels bolted to the frame.

I thought of bolting the castors as I did on another stand project that I did but decided against it on this one for the following reasons;

1. I used the identical type/size castors on the
other project with no issues for the last 5 yrs

2. I have a small overhead hoist to lift the whole
assembly if needed and could easily lay it
down to change one out.

The flat spot issue; I've found with this type castor

http://www.tenaquip.com/shop/itemDe...&manufacturerItemNumber=A31ENB100R&lang=en_US

is none existent on the previous project that weighs more than this project as it rolls around perfectly.

I am way below the weight capacity of the castors.

Although in 10 yrs from now I will think back to this thread and remember; 4shorts told me so!

Thanks for the reply and advice!

No doubt about it. It's a great idea. It's some hard finding room for tools in a shop. I've had hot bolts stick to my wheels and it was like something with the air brakes on

I built a press a few years ago. It's powered with an Enerpac electric over hydraulic system. At the time I built it I really liked it but there was one thing I should have done that I didn't and I'll soon fix it. I should have had the cylinder where it could move from side to side. Sometime I need to press stuff that's not exactly centre and it's a bit of a pain. I think I'll do that this week.
Good thread and thanks for the reminder. ;)

Nice! You are giving me press envy; lol.

How many tons is it built to handle?

You obviously fabricated the press brake- nice work!

Looking forward to your mod;) and the thread!

Thanks. The press I built but the Enerpac system was bought by me at an auction. I paid $250. for it and I checked the retail and it was around $4500. so I did good. I put the 20 ton decal on it but the Enerpac rep told me it's rated at 30 ton so this is another thing I need to change.

The brake is one of two I fabricated. I did them to aid in the restoration of my old fork lift. They sure have come in handy. Might be something you could do as well. They do come in handy Your going yo enjoy your press

Hi
I just finished modifying my grizzly 10 ton shop press you can check it out on http://i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t644/joeshop/Shop press/image_zps2b095db4.jpg
These are the things that I added. Rubber leveling feet, air over hyd pump, made a trolly to mount the hyd ram on so you can move from left to right, table lift, safety cage, made a press brake and bushing driver set. So I guess that's about all the things I can think of to modify it :)

Looks good!

What size (cubic feet) is that on your millermatic?

Do you own it? If so where did you buy it?

Thanks

If you are asking about the argon/co2 bottle on my welding cart I don't know how many cubic feet it is. And I did buy the cylinder, I got it from my local ace hardware and exchange when it is time for a fill.

That cylinder looks to be a size "F", which is 7" diameter and 21" to the top of the valve, 40 cu. ft. capacity. If you weld much, you'll probably end up trading up to at least 80 CF,(size "Q", 7 x 37) or even a larger one. I have a mm252 with a "K" tank (200CF) for c-25 gas, a dc tig with a "S" size tank (150Cf) and a couple other small tanks (tossed in on another deal) -

Of course the size tank you get would depend on how much/little you weld - I've been doing a LOT lately, so moved up in tank size. In the last 4 months or so, I've gone thru about 40 pounds of .035 solid wire and maybe 300 CF of C-25 gas on several large projects.

Since normal flows are 20 Cu.Ft. per hour, a 40 CF tank will only last a couple hours of actual weld time.

Here's a size chart I found online... Steve
