TYM T554HST Cab
I have a TYM 554 with cab and I need to haul it with a 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma. First of all, am I being reasonable with my tow vehicle? Second, what are your recommendations for a trailer that can safely haul this tractor with my truck? I'm in northeast texas (Greenville area).

Thanks,
AllenArmory

I don't have all of the numbers in front of me, but I was looking into what I would need to haul a T494 with loader and perhaps an RC on back. I figured out that by the time I got a trailer that could handle the tractor, I would be at the top end or beyond a Tundra's specs. I don't think a Tacoma can do the job (at least not within specs).

We are in Ft. Worth for a few more months as our house in the Piney Woods is under construction. We often come back across Lake Lavon into McKinney and down to 121 home. Less stressful traffic than the shorter route on 30 to 635.

I wouldn't haul it with a Tacoma, at MINIMUM a full sized half ton with close to 8k hauling capacity, and then preferably a 10k trailer. A T554 with cab/loader will be close to 5200# by itself, then the true cargo weight will outgrow a 7600# trailer quick when considering the trailers own weight.

Without a Front End Loader? Any ballast in the rear tires? any implements on it? Did you get the tow package on the Tacoma?

At 4188 lbs (guessing base weight), 7k trailer about 2000 lbs (guessing again?) maybe doable depending on your reply to above...

Thanks for the replies, everyone. To answer some questions, it would be the cab+loader since I hate taking the loader off. I would take the rear implements off before I transported it. No ballast in the tires. I did not get the tow package on the Tacoma.

Add at least 1k for a front end loader... Could you do it? Most likely you could move it but you could easily destroy your transmission too. Only when you add the Towing Package to the V6 engine that the tow power is expanded to 6400 pounds. Which would not cover your total weight.

Are you talking short distance hauling? I would not haul it long distance... My parents live in McLendon-Chisholm; so you got flat land to deal with.

From TractorData website, that tractor/loader is 5,449lbs not counting a cab. That's at the upper end of a 7K trailer(my 7K is 1600lbs, for a payload of 5400).

You need a 10K trailer, which is heavier than a 7K. And you have the weight of the cab. And fuel, chains, binders, straps, ice chest with soda etc.

Experienced based SWAG if you add a ~500lbs cab, you are at ~6000lbs. Add 2k for a 10k trailer, and you are ~8K+ with fuel, gear, chains, straps, binders.

Have hauled similar; no way I'd put that behind a mini-truck. That would be a heavy-ish load even for most "1/2 tons".

Not trying to be a smarty pants, but I'd be more comfortable hauling the tacoma with that tractor!

As others mentioned, its a bigger compact tractor and you'd be safe with a 10K pound trailer. I would advise getting a longer trailer that you think you need as well. They shrink significantly. I should have gotten at least a 20ft deck.

I'd only do it if you want to be featured in the "hauling or towing something wrong" thread. That's way too light duty a truck for that kind of load, both suspension and braking.
It's a suburbanite truck...fine for towing an ATV or small boat, but not anything much larger.

I had a tacoma v6 with towing package and needed to move 4000 tractor 2 miles around the corner. I used a 7k trailer, I only did it once as the truck and trailer was not the right equipment. upgraded to a 2500 and 14k gooseneck trailer now is the perfect setup for my longer moves.
