Recharging question (alternator)

Another simple test is to take a wrench, pliars or screwdriver and hold the metal part against the small bearing on the back of the alternator. If the bearing is magnetic it's charging. More magnetism = more charging volts.

"The Rest of the Story".....

I forgot that 3-4 months ago, some dufas (ahem....that's me) had to put a new pully belt on. The one on it had sheared. Single belt covers water pump and alternator.

Belt had stretched.... I tightened it and started machine. Is now reading 14.4 volts while running so it look like that was my primary culpret.

Should have thought about this but totally forgot I'd put a new belt on.

Thanks for telling us how it turned out. Might help the next person. Glad it's resolved.
