Rebuilt hunting utv

Is there any downside to buying an used rebuilt motor utv that was being used as a hunting rig? Thanks.

Other than the obvious? Anything used always comes with the risk that there are issues with wear or abuse that are not readily visible. Also the risk that the vehicle is stolen.

I would say as long as you are comfortable with those potential risks in this case and the price is acceptable given those risks, have fun!

I rarely will buy anything with a rebuilt motor why ?, because why was the motor needing rebuilt in the first place?

These days motors are made so well, you have to beat the crap out of them or they are a poor design, for something to need a motor rebuild. I don't want either of those in my yard.

There's too many good options out there, to buy things that have needed, and probably will need again, a major fix.

Owner said map sensors was bad, and a mechanic tore and rebuild pistons, everything. It is one of the hisun, fwiw. Just concerned how hard to fix things down the road, i am purely using it to haul feed/hay.

Unless there are receipts from a reputable shop who did the "rebuild", I'd keep looking.

I personally know the owner and general manager of a local power sports dealer who sells ATVs and Side by Sides. They don't rebuild anything due to cost. They can buy and install new engines from the OEM cheaper and provide the customer with a warranty on the engine. And, this is only done on high hour units typically used by construction or farming operations because the average recreational user does not put enough hours on a machine to wear it out.

Never heard of a map sensor problem that resulted in engine damage that required rebuild.

We put a short block into a 700 grizzly that we hard worn out. Seems it was a 3+ k job about 5 years ago via Yamaha dealership. (going my memory here) It was never much good after that and had problem after problem.

I assume hisun is the brand? That would be enough to keep me looking. I would want a name brand that parts are available for in the future.
