I have a YM1820D with a leaking rear wheel flange that a am attempting to fix. The flange is now loose but I need to remove the axel in order to remove the flange and replace the gasket and seal. How does one remove the axel? Do I need to pull it off? Does it screw off or slide off?

Thanks,
Darrin

the rear axle flange on 2000 unbolt but there is a post on here about a 2200 i think and it had to have the axle tube unbolted from the tractor and then messed with from the inside? not sure how yours is, but go to HOYE's site (look at there ad at the top of the page) and go to there parts section like your ordering and all the parts diagrams are availible to look at

Don't take what I'm saying to the bank. Just based on what I see in drawings (not even of your model) I think your going to have to remove pto housing and maybe even remove axle housing. I can't see how the axle shaft can come out without removing the drive gear which looks to be held on the shaft with a retaining ring. Good luck!

Yes Dougmac, how much do you charge an hour? I just live west of you in Kingston:)

My 1820D looks very much like the pictures on your web site, but I just ordered a manual from Hoyle today. I did have one question how did you press the out board bearing off? I have a press but I am not sure how I can get a hold of the bearing.

Thanks!

Darrin,
Hi Neighbor! I used a bearing splitter to get the outside bearing off. If you have some thinner press plates that might work too. I don't have a press but I have a great buddy that lives in Edmonds that has one....

Well I got it done this week end, I did not have to take the axle assembly/housing off, but instead I just removed the PTO assembly to get at the snap ring at the end of the axle, then I firmly tapped the outer axle hub to remove the axle.

Removed every thing on the axle with my press.

When I assembled it I made a block that was tightly fitted between the other axle and the dissembled axle drive gear and bearing which was behind the drive gear. Then when I installed the axle with the new gasket and seal, I use the flange bolts and flange to pull it all back together. First I had to use a couple of clamps to get the flange and outer bearing pressed into the axle housing far enough to get the flange bolts started, but fortunately it all when back together.

Thanks for the help!
