Are you talking (wheel) lug bolts.... If so adjacent bolts/studs should give you a clue....

IF you have lug nuts on threaded studs showing then studs are pressed into flange on axle, if you have bolt heads (no threads showing) then the lug bolts are threaded into flange on axle....

For cars, I don't think I've ever seen wheel studs threaded into the hub.

However, if you can see the back side of the hub/flange, if the stud is pressed in, you'll see a mushroom head on the back side that is larger than the actual bolt diameter. And no flats or Torx for any type of wrench.

A Caliper would tell you the answer very quickly.

What model of tractor do you have? L42 is not a valid Kubota model. Once we have a correct model we can provide pertinent advice. If you have a nut on the outside then the fastener is a stud and they are press fit in. If they fastener on the outside is a bolthead then they are lug bolts and are threaded in.

VW does that. I think some other German cars do as well. It's kind of a pain when you're mounting a wheel.

My Kubota B7100 had a mix of bolts and studs on the front hubs, from the factory.

Eartly VW (Beetle, Ghia, Thing) does not use wheel studs VW uses bolts, if there are stud in early VW hubs they are after market and are not a standard feature...

I think you are confusing bolts and studs. Most German cars use bolts threaded into the spindle instead of lug nuts on studs, but the studs are not THREADED into the spindle, they are pressed in from behind. The way the statement was written was a bit confusing and took me a second and a double read to realize what was being said.
