Hi all. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that if you push the remote handle up, all the way up, it stays in place almost like the float on the FEL.

Can we use this position to run a hydraulic log splitter that has it's own hydraulic control handle?

The manual doesn't cover it, no surprise there.

TIA

In theory yes however I'm not sure of your current configuration.
My tractors original configuration didnt stick unless I was missing something? it returned to center when I let go. Later I purchased a backhoe attachment which required me to change the detent allowing the remote to stay in either direction instead of returning to center. This is required in order to get constant flow to then use external controls

I always forget to put my tractor information: Rk24, did not come with the backhoe.

I have the rk37 and shipped without backhoe. As far as I know the lever didnt stay to one side until I installed the detent that came with the backhoe i ordered later

Worst case you might need a different detent which literally takes 60 seconds to install

The detent is the shiny metal piece on the hydro block. The one that came off was painted black. 20181222_082158.jpeg

Got it. And where do we buy them from?

The detent I have, shipped with the backhoe. You could try your store but you would likely have better luck messaging "RK Tractor Guy" He can also confirm if you need it. If your rear remote does already lock into a position other than center then you probably dont need this. I dont think mine did however.

Eventually parts are expected to be listed on the RK website but I just checked and it's not there yet, only a page stating they have parts.

Side note either way I found that pushing the lever flows a particular direction the the rear remote and the opposite direction reverses the flow. DUH right but maybe not so obvious that depending on which hose is connected to which port your flow may not be in the correct matching direction with your device. If it doesn't work I simply push the lever to the opposite side. If yours only locks in one position currently then you would just need to pop the lines back off and swap them.

If you're in detent / "float" position, I don't think there is any pressure (or flow) to operate the log splitter.

Lots of people just bungee the lever to one "pressure" position.

I don't know enough about open or closed center systems, but I've also heard related discussions that SCV valves used for constant flow (like a log splitter or hydraulic motor) can generate heat.

You are correct. When in the center float position there will be no pressure. Replacing the detent allows the lever to lock in either direction essentially the same as a bungie cord

Could swear my RK55 remote 3 pt handle also stays in whatever position you have it in. No backhoe.

You need to know what type of valve it is to know what the detent does. I would hope that is described somewhere in the owner's manual or literature, since it's important to the usage of the valve.

Some simple single action (open or closed) valves have detents to hold them open. If it's a double-acting valve (with two directions and a center), that may or may not have a detent.

Some valves are "float-detent" and pushing the valve into detent puts you into float (like a front loader). Rear remote valves are often setup to be float-detent since that can come in handy with certain rear implements where you might want the top link to float.

When in the center float position there will be no pressure. Replacing the detent allows the lever to lock in either direction essentially the same as a bungie cord

Center isn't a float -- that is more like the off position and flow will go past the valve to the next in line (or return to tank), and the valve outputs are closed. A true float position connects the two outputs of the valve so that attached cylinders go limp/neutral.

Don't mean to get overly technical here but there are so many types of rear remote valves I think you need to figure out the type and purpose of the valve before anybody can answer the question.

They are talking about rear remote valves, not the 3-pt hitch.

Thanks, you guys are awesome. A lot of good information.

Just got an RK55. The "B" hydro remote has a detent. It is very annoying for my application.

Any info on how to remove the detent on this?

You can open the rear cap on the spool, take two or 3 small balls and a small spring out and put the cap back in. I think that's all it takes.

Just be careful when taking the cap out as parts are under spring tension and may fly everywhere.
