Rear Remotes and Single Acting Cylinders

Hi All,

I have a Kioti DK40se with rear remotes. I just checked out a bobcat 6' plow in pretty good condition for $400!

Here's my question, being a hydraulic novice, the two cylinders are single acting cylinders-can I just run hydraulic lines from the back remotes and just plug the 2 plow hoses in?

Additionally, what is the best way to clear the existing fluid from the cylinder and lines so as not to contaminate my hydraulic fluid?

Operate from the same rear remote valve and hook 1 hose to each cylinder. As you push 1 cylidner out to angle the other cylinder will be pushed in returning oil to the opposite QD/valve port.

As long as your remote valve isn't regen you shouldn't have any problem.

Take the hoses off to drain them and then with the hoses off, manually angle the blade all the way to one side and back should clear any old fluid.

Well i have a single acting cylinder on my post hole hydraulic assist and it did not work on the rear hydraulics.

The fix was a simple part that screws into the rear HST filler spout, and the single acting cylinder line dump plugs into this.

Its the same part they use for backhoes.

Part was like $24.00 from my Kioti dealer PLUS the female hyd connector end that i already had. And took about 10 minutes to install.

My dealer told me this is necessary any time a single acting cylinder is used.

I am not sure the dealer told you the full story.

There is no reason that one can not use one of the work ports of a valve designed for DA cyl, to activate a single action cyl. You would use one of the work ports and plug the other work port. When you use the cyl, you are adding fluid to the base end. When you release the fluid from the base of the cyl, it flows out to the tank. The other work port goes into relief and screeches for a few seconds, because you are trying to add fluid to a plugged port.

If I am wrong, someone will surely correct me.

Someone else told me i neded to dump the cyllinder into the tank. Now this might be because as i raise the PHD the cyllinder HAS to retract, and this might be different that what the poster is asking.

That i dont know. All i do know is my PHD works great now

If the cylinder must retract or "Float" when raising the 3PH then using your standard QD's and valve will not work.

On Jeff's question of having two single angle cylinders for what I presume is the angle function, he could use his existing directional valve. If there is not a cross over relief in this circuit he may want to add one. On this type function as one cylinder is expending the other is retracting.

The hose in your picture, is it connected to one of the work ports on the valve and going to the tank?

I did just that and it works fine as long as the two cylinders are opposing each other, Like the angle cylinders do, which is what we are assuming you are talking about and SSdoxie pointed out.

Yup, and if it's like my retrofitted truck plow it will move very fast.
I have BH size couplers but the truck plow was never designed for that kind of volume. Could almost do a slap shot with it on high idle.
That's when I had the plow mount to the 3pt hitch and used the rear remotes, now I have it frame mounted on the front and connected to the curl circuit so it moves slower, more in control.

Could one not connect the hose from the single cyl to the float port on a valve.

If you were to push the lever to the down position, the relief will activate, but if you go into the detent float mode, the cyl should move with the ground level with no adverse action.
