Rear Finish Mower Rear Finish Mower Sizing. Want 72" on MF - GC1720

New to the site. So much great info on here.

Looking to purchase a Massey GC1720 SCUT. Would like to put a 72" RFM behind it, but the PTO HP for the MF 1720 is only 19.6 and most of the 72" RFMs that I find require 20hp. Does anyone on here run a 72" RFM on a SCUT? If so, what is your PTO HP?

2 concerns-I think you would any on power if you tried to mow any more than 2 inches of grass, and I think the weight of a 6' finish would push a SCUT around quite a bit. I used a 5' finish mower on. 26hp Kubota B2620 it was a perfect fit.

Thanks Will. I generally mow 1-2 times per week, so the height won't be an issue. Do you think the weight of the FEL would help in being pushed around?

I'm really looking for ways to reduce time on mowing the yard.

I have an LS mt125 (which is similar in size to the GC) and use a tartar 72" finish mower without any problems. Naturally it would be really working the tractor if the grass gets too tall or is even slightly wet. It does not "push" the tractor around. I ussually take off the FEL when I mow. You can definitely feel that it is back there though. Another issue could arise if your property is sloped or hilly.

My 72” finish mower weighs 750 pounds and it’s too much for my b7200. The power isn’t enough and the mower is too heavy. You’ve got more power and will probably be fine if the grass is kept under control. If the ground is flat the weight might be alright. Edit, I just saw your last post. Unless you get a really light mower I don’t think it’s going to workout for you.

i used a 72" northern tool finish mower on the back of a 18hp new holland rated at 14 pto hp for a summer. i was surprised how well it did. only cut dry grass, but healthy green, and no more than 2" of cut. i preferred to remove the fel. it was my front yard about an acre about half mowed going backwards for the zero turn effect.

the craftsman rider, 18hp and 42" deck i used the summer be fore that had less take down power!

i think you'll be fine.
