Ready to battle Mother Nature

I really hate to put the plow an blower on the tractors as it renders them
useless for anything else but there come a time we must prepare...

Let it come, we are now ready for almost anything within reason...

Just looking at that photo puts a chill down my spine. It's so painful thinking about dealing with snow and the cold for months at a time.

You sure have an impresssive setup!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

We finally had a decent snow last night. About 4-5 inches. Only 2nd one of the year.

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

I am sitting by fireplace thinking about those years I lived in Michigan, and fought the snow just to go to work. Now if I am snowed( or more likely iced) in, I just wait for better weather before I venture out. Not much winter in Southern Illinois, just enough to make me go to Florida, or Vegas for a week or two to escape it.

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

Which I like best is a difficult question to answer. For easy of operation
and maneuverability, it have to be the Steiner 230. It works great on
hard surfaces, so I use it to clean the apron in front of the garage, tool
shed and walkways. The snow blower works great as it doesn't leave
any piles...

Unfortunately my driveway is 300 ft and gravel. The snow blower has
a tendency to throw rocks. Plus during bad storms the county trucks
are kept busy keeping the main roads passable an forget there are
secondary road. I usually end up cleaning the road out to the main
highway. For this job you can't beat a 4WD tractor and plow...

If your asking what I would buy if I could only have one tractor. That is
easy... I pick ether a Steiner 415 / 430 / 525 or a Ventrac 4000 / 4200...
These are AWD, articulating tractor, that can handle about 30 different
tools and are very maneuverable

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

Sorry Mr MossRoads, till I seen your post I forgot about Power Trac.
You know the old saying, out sight out of mind. I've never seen a
Power Trac in person, nor do I know of any dealers within a days drive
of my home...

Looking at Power Trac spec, they appear to be a very competent
tractor. I especially liked the diesel model and unlike Steiner or
Ventrac, the Power Trac offers a real loader and not just a scoop
shovel.

Sure wish they had some dealers near by so a guy could get a good
look at them and a test drive...

Power Trac does not have a dealer network. If you want to see one and test drive one, you either need to go to the manufacturing plant in Tazewell, VA., or find someone in your area that would be willing to let you drive theirs. There's a thread in the Power Trac forum that lists the owners by state, but I see that there is no one listed in Michigan. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

I'm only 5 miles from the Michigan border... but Michigan is a BIG state. West Michigan could be anywhere from the Indiana line to the Wisconsin border in da U.P. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Stieners and Ventracs are really nice machines, from what I've read.

Re: Ready to battle Mother Nature

It's a little confussing, everything on the west shore from the Indiana State line
to darn near the big bridge is referred to as West Michigan. I'm about 50 miles
north of Grand Rapids an 25 miles inland from Lake Michigan. Going down '
along the lake, 31 to I-94 it's just under 3 hours to the Indiana border...

You mentioned being near the Kankakee River. I'm familiar with the river at it's
other end in Illinois but often wondered where it starts, Indiana or Michigan???
