Ready for spring

Ran my ZD326 and 331 today after sitting in a cargo box for 4 months... No flats, and both started right up!
Looking forward to spring and mowing again.

When the 12 foot banks melt end of May I will be mowing again also..

I kept saying "It's only February, why does winter seem so long?" Then I realized that I've been on snowshoes since November 16, at least a month earlier than normal.

On a less seasonal note, I prepped my seed flats today and will get seeds planted this weekend. :thumbsup:

We have about 4ft on the ground here. Mow? Seems I need to change the engine oil in the blower.

Grass is starting to grow hear and I'll be mowing next month. I'm already spraying round up along my fences and walk ways. I like to buy a three pack of blades, and then change them out every three months.

We had snow on the ground Nov 13th IIRC. Did melt off for a few days right around New Years, and while we haven't had a lot of snow since, it sure has hung around. "Spring" at this point is just a goal. Thankfully, we can be pretty confident it will appear, as it has for the last several thousand years, without fail.

Summer, on the other hand, has been reclusive a time or two...

Bawh - humbug. I have patches of green grass where I scalped the snow in the yard. Otherwise - 18" in hanging on.

I'm "patiently" waiting for the second picture to arrive.

We're skiing in good snow here but with the lake nearly froze over, snow has pretty much turned off... Many, many more photos can be found on the dogs blog.

To early think about mowers,still no signs of mud season yet here.

Boy was it cold this AM. +15F with about a 10mph wind. The pond is ten acres. Five acres of cattails( 12' to 3' deep ) down on the far end - five acres of open water, shown in the pictures - 80 feet deep. Currently it has small mouth bass.

80' is astounding. way to go, spring fed? hold it's own in drought? although some hold cattails & lilies in contempt, i like their cover for wildlife. i just sometimes prune as necessary. will never consider chemical control on that. & build docks & foot bridges w/native eastern red cedar.

Yes, very definitely spring fed. It's a VERY DANGEROUS winter time situation. Thirteen inches of ice on my little lake right now. Except over the many springs where the ice is probably one half inch or less. You never know - there is a foot of snow over the entire lake. Fall thru a spring - your final surprise for your entire life.

My lake is a small example of all the lakes in this area. Volcanic in origin - washed out my the many out washings of ancient Lake Missoula. This area is called the Channeled Scablands. The sides of the lake have zero shore line. Six inches out from those vertical volcanic cliffs it's 45 feet deep.

There is an ABSOLUTE LAW here on my property. No life vest - you aren't going to be allowed within 100 feet of my little lake. NO EXCEPTION, EVER - ANYTIME. I've offended a few parents, a few times. But rather offend than hook & drag out a floater.
Cattails are just fine. What else am I going to say - there are five acres of them down at the far end. It's where the SMART baby bass head for immediately. The others - well, they become food for the bigger bass.

Over a twelve month period - on our driest of dry years - the lake will fluctuate as much as ten inches. Only noticeable because of the "normal" white line on the volcanic cliffs. Normal being where the lake level is most of the time. Leaves a mineral deposit on the cliffs. Like a ring around the bath tub.

the mt top here in the ozark nat forest is basically one large spring. have 4 spring fed ponds. these taken last spring
like you waiting for springtime.

Yeah - every year, for the last 38. This is an antsy time of year. Hoping for an early spring or, at least, rain and warmer wx. So very tired of continued cold and wind. The sun is so bright during the day. Venture out to check things out and come close to freezing your clappers.

Those are some good sized springs.

Many are ready for spring, but is spring ready for them? I may need to get a bigger tractor because this one won't stack the snow much higher.
