Re-routing diesel exhaust system

Many newer tractors have exhaust pipes routed down and to the front of the tractor. Whether one can smell fumes and soot or not, a tractor operator is inhaling loads of carcinogens,:thumbdown:. Low sulfur diesel and wearing a mask are inadequate attempts at a solution, but good ideas, nevertheless. A lot of tractor owners have re-routed tractor exhaust in various ways. I would appreciate learning of good ways to do this in terms of materials and methods. With responses, please post pics, if possible. Thanks

There's been a few of us who took the plunge and attempted to rectify the issue. I did mine two years ago and glad that I did. It's on a Kubota 5740. I used a few stainless flanges on the exhaust exhaust along with one flex pipe and a 3" stack. I fabricated a mounting box that traps any water that gets in the stack and let's it out on the bottom via a drain hose. Here's a few photos of how I did it.

Excellent. Thanks. Newfoundland is a bit out of my reach. Otherwise, Specialty Repairs would be the place to customize my rig. I appreciate the photos - it makes a big difference to actually see the modification. The mounting box is pretty nifty.
I agree with decanso1, that is a beaut of a tractor, despite its saying "Kioti Killer." I love my DK45. Fortunately, I am not sensitive about brand loyalty. On the other hand, I am reassured to see that Kioti has gone from irrelevant to being a target

Thank you. No, the muffler is still there. I also made a few heat shields to protect the AC line close to the muffler but I don't think it was needed due to all the cooling coming from the fan but it was a fun project. :thumbsup:

Thanks, the mounting box was built to add stability to the 3" stack plus act as a catch basin to any water that might get into the pipe. It's been flawless since it's been put there.

The Kioti Killer has nothing to do with the Kioti product. As a matter of fact my next tractor could very well be a Kioti. It almost was my first tractor but the dealer here wasn't very easy to deal with. I had a Kioti ordered at the time but they couldn't tell me when I'd receive it and I had signed a snow clearing contract so I had to go over to Kubota and buy one there so that's why I call it " Kioti Killer" it killed my Kioti purchase plus the fact I have a few buddies with Kioti's and I tease them about it :laughing:

I guess by now the Kioti dealer regrets not selling me a Kioti because I've since purchased five Kubota's. I did how ever buy a new Dump trailer from them last year and they were great to deal with. :thumbsup:

I have a L3400 Kubota and this really bugs me too.

I don't really like a stack, because I'm pretty tall and I don't have a cab, so it doesn't really solve the problem for me.

I don't want a downswept rear exhaust, because of the amount of time I spend in long dry grass.

Does anyone have any good ideas?

5 Kubotas! Yeah, I'll bet the Kioti folks have gotten easier to deal with. I have enjoyed the photos and videos. You do some good work up there and are clearly geared for winter. I can relate - used to live in Western NY where we averaged ~ 100 inches of snow/year. Perhaps you get more. Thanks.

Not familiar with the L3400. I'm in tall grass quite a bit, too, and also have no cab. I really want the exhaust to blow out behind the tractor where it will be down wind most of the time. I don't use a BH. The DK45 has high clearance plus I've scouted out where I might possibly run an exhaust so that it is above the lowest point on the tractor. I'm planning to weld (to have someone weld) a shield on the R side of the tractor to protect all of the hydraulic connections underneath - from tall grasses and woody stuff. I might see if I can do similarly on the L, to shield the exhaust and leave an air space between the exhaust pipe and the shield; so that the heat is not trapped, yet I can keep flammables away. There might be some good barrier materials for this, such as might be used behind wood stoves and such - not sure.

Not a lot of choices. You either go up or down. I went down on the exhaust of the 4240 as you can see in the photo but I still wasn't really pleased with it.

Thanks. This has been a big snow winter. These pics are from yesterday.

I knew I was at risk of sounding like an idiot!

Maybe I can have it both ways.. I'm dreaming of a pip that comes along the transmission case then maybe up besides the ROPS and points backwards. I dunno.. maybe one day I'll do something about it.
