After reading an old post on bearing failure on a rck60-24b I decided to check my mmm as I wanted to switch over to a synthetic grease. One of the bearings spun roughly so I changed all of them. When I pressed the new bearings in I found resistance for about 3/4 of an inch and then the bearing was able to be pushed in by hand. I noticed that the outer ring of the bearing can slip if forced lightly. The old bearings are not burnt and the housing has no sign of wear or damage. I would like to know if slippage of the outer ring is normal for these bearings. In a car the outer ring doesn't move. Thanks for the help.

Hello…
That type of problem occurs anytime the tolerance of a bore and the tolerance of a shaft or cylinder are at their extremes… The outer or inner race should be caged firmly to prevent movement or tipping.
Loctite and others make a ‘bearing race mount’ adhesive that will work… in the case of a ‘spun’ bearing race … Loctite has a filler for shafts, that will work well even with extreme wear. I used this on a final drive on a cat motor grader… I was planning to use it as a temporary fix, but it worked so well I left it permanent.
Secure all bearing races, check with your bearing supplier for mounting products. If you use the correct stuff you will have no problems in future disassembly. KennyV.
