RATS!!!!!!!

OK, I beseech the infinite wisdom of the TBN'ers to tell me what the ultimate rat bait is. Have RATS in the barn and have caught one with a conventional rat trap (bigger version of the mousetrap) but I still have at least one running around. I used peanut butter on the trip plate w/o success. Don't want to use poision because if he/she dies under the flooring in the tack room I'll have a nice ripe smell all summer. Thoughts?

shot shells would work but I've only glimpsed one rat briefly once and I'm sure shooting in the barn wouldn't thrill our horses!

I imagine the introduction of snakes wouldn't thrill the horses either./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Wheaties, rats are attracted to the grain smell which is very strong on Wheaties. Catch them in a humane trap, then take them outside and blow the #!@$ out of them with a shotshell./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

If you use Decon, the rat will dry up, kind of like a mummy. It kills the rats by dehydrating them. Unless the area is wet under the floor, you shouldn't get any smell, just a dried up rat body.

A snake is also a good option, we have had a 6 ft black snake living in my brothers barn for several years and haven't seen any signs of mice or rats.

Rats will eat nearly anything, but they prefer high-quality foods such as fresh grain, livestock feed, and meat. Rats require 1 fluid ounce of water daily when feeding on dry food.

We use the dry dog food pellets.

Seems to work fine.

Most of the farmers I know employ a few barn cats.

My step father gave me one of <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ratzapper.com/>these</A> for xmas. Says they work great. The household cat has got more mice than it has but he swears his has killed a half dozen this year.

They recommend cat food as bait.
