I'm thinking about going to look at this GMC truck this weekend. It's really just about what I am looking for in appearance, features, and price range. I have already had several emails with the seller, but no phone calls (yet). I do plan to call him later this evening as he just emailed a few more pics to me this afternoon. The lowest cash or bank check he will take cash is $28,500. (I would be buying it outright, rather than taking up his lease). Is this truck a bad deal, great deal or somewhere in between? It's about 80 miles from me in the Charlotte, NC area or I would have already gone to look at it by now.

Some more info from emails: It has a black cloth interior and he's added an electronic brake controller to pull his 20ft boat occasionally in the summer. It has all power accessories, but no sunroof or leather. Not sure which model or option package it has or I would run it through KBB to see what average retail is. I do know that from the zillions of ad's I have looked at on autotrader and craigslist the price seems to be in line with year model and mileage.

Also, I would appreciate comments, like if there are known problems with these motors, or 2012 GMC trucks in general. Thanks!

2012 GMC Sierra, 23k miles, 5.3L V8, auto, excellent condition, has power everything, bucket seats, center counsel, dual climate controls, interior has everything but leather. I have added front leveling kit, rear air bags (for height adjustment), oversized tires, spray bedliner, and tonneau cover. I actually leased this truck, but this is priced at market value. Can be purchased for $29,000 or lease take over for $439 month and buy out in a year and a half is $21000. Email or call with any questions, can be seen anytime. Need to sell ASAP.

In my area, you can buy a brand new truck just like that for $27,000 with rebates etc. I would get a few quotes from your area dealers before going to look at this truck. You want to look up the Private Party value and not the retail value when looking at used trucks. Clearbook.com is a good site to show what trucks have been selling for.

I only check vehicle value using NADA. (National Auto Dealers Association)
They give wholesale and retail figures with listed options and mileage considerations.
What is the mileage on the truck?
Why would someone do tires, rims and the other accessories on a leased truck? How does that effect the lease if he stays with it?
Some leases have penalties for mileage and alterations.

My boating buddy just got a new truck for about that Monday.

2013 F150 4x4 Super Crew 5.0L and 3.55 gears. Its cloth with the factory brake controller and power everthing including back-up camera.

$33,000.

That does not seem like a very good deal to me. You can buy new for about yhr same.

If he is leasing it, can it be sold? The deal sounds funny to me.

I would head to a dealer and look at a new one and see what the real bottom number is. With rebates and incentives you may get very close to that price brand new. Around here they advertise new ones with all the rebates very close to that price and at times a bit less. Good luck!

There are better deals out there. Don't forget the new body styles for 2014 ,so 2012, 2013 will be old style. My friend has a lease,he is only allowed 10000 miles a year. Takes a bus to work to keep miles off his pickup. You will take a hit on depreciation for a new truck. Warranty may be better on a new truck. I bought new in 07 NBS it is only worth 18000 to 20000 now by what I see advertised. plowking

Remember that truck is going to take a hit in resale value with the all-new 2014's just around the corner. It might be worth $28,000 today but I'd bet when the 2014's start showing up (and that's soon) that truck won't be worth $25,000. It's just the nature of the beast. Go price out a brand new one with similar options and I'll bet you are in spitting distance of what he's asking for that one. The new one comes with a full warranty and you get put all the miles on it. The GM 900's resale value is ok but he ain't driving no first gen Tacoma(the king of king's when it comes to resale value), just keep that in mind.
