Flat ground has nothing to do with it.

As mentioned before, tap the forward or reverse pedal while moving the range select and it should go right in. It may also be hard to shift if you are in 4WD.
Not sure about the RK but my HST has no clutch pedal.

Apart from the cost, is there any other good reason to why the manufacturers just don't make a full synchronized transmission for both HST and Geared tractors? The range gears seems to always be straight cut gears in every tractor up to 100 HP. It's about time the fix this. Another solution to help making it easier to shift would be to chamfer the gear teeth edges.

Straight cut gears are stronger. No scyronizers means less parts to wear. Since these are not gear banging transmissions there is no need for angle cut synchronized gears.

I like the way it is, less to worry about.

I am reading the responses, but perhaps you aren't?

There have been some comments mentioning to be careful if you are on a slope and shifting ranges... Thus my response of being on flat land, thus flat ground does indeed have a part in the discussion.

Mine has a clutch and double clutching doesn't do any good. Still stiff as he!!.

Yesterday I found that just flexing the brake pedal a couple of times helped.

Anything you do to nudge the gears a little in one direction or other will help. It can be bumping the HST pedals/treadle, letting the tractor roll a teeny bit, etc. Just do all that stuff and make sure the tractor is stationary before you move the lever again.
