ran thru ffence and didn\'t stop

a couple weeks ago,someone ran thru 2 of my fences and didn't bother to stop. they even took out one heck of a corner post, so i know they did some damage to their vehicle. i called the local sheriffs office and did an accident report etc: then yesterday i found a tail light in the pasture, it appears to be from a 97 toyota truck, so tomorrow, i'll call the 2 wrecking yards in the area and go to the toyota dealers and see if i can find out if anyone has ordered a new tail light. i would just take it to the sheriffs office, but i really doubt they would put out any effort at all to check it out. after i get the info i can, then, i'll drop it by the sheriffs office. the deputy and i had already found a couple parts that said toyota, so this will just add to the collection they have.

It maybe a good idea to run down your leads (as long as there is NO risk to you - doubt going to Toyota will be too rough /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) then give them the info and they can get the guy and maybe get you some $ to fix the fence. I am guessing the guy/gal was drunk -it is SOOO common good luck

happened on a friday night, an empty beer 6pack carrier also in the pasture, so i figure they where drinking: this same thing happened where i use to work, about 8 years ago, and we located the person and they had to pay for the repairs, but we had our own LE search the vehicle registration to narrow down the number of places to look. i doubt the sheriffs office is interested enough to do that kind of research, i could be wrong, and hope i am. will cost them about $400: it took me about 8 hours to get the fence back to the same condition it was, field fence and barbed wire, 4 metal post and 3 wooden corner post.

If you can track the vehicle down( i mean police) and the evidence proves it was their vehicle you may get all or some of your cost back, but doubt there is any way to prove DWI /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif WISH YOU COULD THOSE those folks need to be off the road.

Check for a serial number on that tailgate. My neighbor s wife got her chop shop busted by a fender number and a tailgate number that identified the vehicle as a stolen vehicle. As bad as I hate to say it Ive seen alot of deputies just not look into things like this.

Back in college, a room mate of mine was driving home (under influence), swerved & ran over a mailbox.

Perhaps 2 days later, the police showed up to "talk" to him about it... he of course, did not know what they were talking about.

They then showed him his license plate that had fallen off the front of his car at the scene of the crime.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

When I was in high school our mailbox got hit, I found a marker light from the front of a Ford product in the yard and the color paint on the post was the same color of a guys truck who he and I really didn't get along. Before beating the guys brains out over it I called the Ford dealer, ran a part number and found this piece to fit an 80's Mercur. Dad who is a salesman at the same Ford dealer and could spot a Mercur and identify one very easy and knowing there really aren't that many around here.... a week later is coming home with teh boat after going fishing and spots an 80's Mercur, red with a busted up front end turning off of the road we live on to another one. Dad followed the guy, got teh plate numbers, stopped him and looked at the front of the car. It was VERy clear this guy was the one who hit our mailbox, sheriff did nothing!

i called the sheriffs office this morning, and asked if anyone would follow up on this if i brought the tail light in: nope..so i went to the toyota dealer, found out the year range, then went to several body shops and 2 salvage yards: week before last, someone called one salvage yard and priced a lot of front end parts for a toyota truck, but didn't order the parts, so they didn't have the phone number, they said they would do everything they can to help, including calling the mid south salvage that delivers parts in this area from little rock, so maybe it will come together eventually.

In my part of the country I wouldn't dare go around asking questions like this. Even questions for a good reason would probably land ME in jail. The way it works here; call the cops because someone sticks a gun in your face and the cops don't do anything. On their way out of your property they get you for not having your dog tied.

We had the same thing happen about a year ago. Our land borders an exit ramp on I-20. Someone took the exit too fast and went through my fence--4 rail 16'creosote boards built with 4x4 posts and 4 strands of bobwire. Took down a 16' section, turned around in the pasture and drug wire and posts back out with him. Called sheriff's dept. and a deputy came out. Of course, no way to trace because whoever did it probably was not living in the area. Only consolation for me was that it probably did a lot of damage to the vehicle. Luckily, my livestock was in another section of the pasture.
