Ram1500 EcoDiesel V6 revealed!

I have got 19 years of trouble-free service out of the 4x4 drivetrain components in my 95 Ram 2500 CTD ...until now. The 4x4 light started flashing, so I checked the CAD actuator/vacuum motor on the front axle (Dana 60) and the actuator basically disintegrated in my hand. Oh well, $85 bucks for a new actuator. I know, it sucks!

The new Ram Eco diesel would be a good choice for our municipality. The township I live in has a whole fleet of Ram regular cab 1500 WTs that are used by just about everybody from building inspectors to road cleanup crews. The trucks seem to spend an awful lot of time idling. I know excessive idling isn't good for any engine, but it seems to me that the township would save a lot of fuel if these trucks were diesel.

Idling will kill these diesel engines. They (all the OEMs) have warnings against idling these newer diesels.

Good! That is real frustrating when I see our county workers just letting their vehicles run for absolutely no reason. I shut mine off in the drive through and won't start them until everyone is in the vehicle and ready to go.

A lot of people seem to be scared of all this new technology being implemented today and think the old school simple designs of yesteryear are more reliable. I find reliability has improved each year in the past 30 years. I have not been stranded along side the highway in resent history but 25 years ago carried a toolbox everywhere I went.

i am one. my trucks are a 94 and a 97. i have no fear of working on them and i can fix anything that is fixable on the side of the road, no pulling of cabs needed. i have always carried a toolbox with and will continue to do so. some people might think i'm crazy, but my tucks get better MPGs than the current offerings, are paid for, and are simpler, sure little things break but hey it's 17 or 20 year old truck and still cheaper than a new one.

someone earlier in this thread mentioned that a light vehicle should last at least 7 years, i think you should be able to get good if not great use out of them for 20+ years

as fr the Diesel ram I would like to see it succeed, but i'm very scared for diesel in the US. gas makes more sense to me on a new truck even using it the way i do

Yeah, it was a tough call, spend the $85 bucks or have it hauled off to the crusher.

Yeah, it looks like crap. I'd take it off your hands for a small fee.

Nice looking truck, I'd love to find an old 12 valve in near mint condition, low miles, and priced cheap. They are pretty hard to find.

Just FYI my 02 f250 had to have the front hubs rebuilt both auto and the manual didn't work. The auto part went out on my 08 f350 and my dads 08 F350 had to get out and manually lock the hubs every time we needed 4 wd. Have had an 01 ram 1500 an 08 ram 1500 a 2010 ram 2500. Currently have a 2012 ram 2500 and a 2013 power wagon never on issue with the 4wd system in any of the rams.

Yep -the Dodge 2500-3500s at least 03 and newer Laramies that i have seen don't have unlocking hubs- they are fully engaged and the disconnect takes place @ the transfer case
spins more things but no hubs to freeze
So it may be a toss up with the SLT manual units...

We have that on our '97 1500 4x4. Eventually things get stuck and it costs $400+ to have it fixed.

I put mine up on the lift and checked -it looks like a motor/servo unit -3? bolts -maybe 20 minute replacement... $85-130.. the dealers sure like people to open up their wallets

I do agree that given a choice that a manual transfer case would be my choice as well, but it was not available when ordering the 3500 with the Laramie option - at least that is my understanding.
