Raising 400cx Loader while in dump position question

I have been using my new 4720 with 400cx loader and so far have been very satisfied with the various features. One issue I expreince is while raising the 400cx loader from the full dump position located on the ground, it raises approx 1/3 up and stops until I adjust the bucket positon to a more upright position and then the loader continues to raise. Example...if I use my bucket hook or grapple to lift an object with the bucket edge vertically facing the ground, I have to level out the the bucket slightly to raise the loader. I assume this is something related to the self-leveling feature, but not sure. Any ideas or should I call the dealer? Overall, everything is operating stellar...just getting used to a few different features. Thanks for any input.

I would bet that is the case, the linkages are probably just at there max travel.

I would also agree that it is part of the self-leveling feature. If you look at the stops/cylinder strokes while it is happening you'll see what's going on. I originally had a 542MSL loader, but once I found out how limited the curl/dump was, it was too much of a sacrifice for me. My dealer swapped it out.

At least you can get to a full dump near the ground. On the 542 MSL, the bucket had to be ~8' (yes feet) high to get a full dump. The curl/dump cylinders on the MSL had a 12" stroke, on the non-MSL they have a 20" stroke. It makes a huge difference.

bjcsc...thanks for that thread...helpful. I do have a grapple and do mostly dirt work, limited pallet work, and some loader lifting of various objects with the hooks on my loader. I know there are pros/cons to self-leveling and I see your point. I need more hours...at 15+ now, but so far I like the feature and will have to adapt to the work at hand.

While redoing my 300' driveway with my orange tractor, I had about 40 tons of crushed stone to move around. Load after load of lift, move, dump, spread, etc. I had 2 occasions of lifting full loads and having back-spillage onto my hood. I like to remember this as "Operator fatigue" but it was stupidity and lack of attention after a long day. A self-leveling feature may have helped.

I'm split right now and think both arguments for and against are valid. Time will tell after I log more hours. Thanks again for the info...just glad it's not a problem that needs repair.

E-66 thanks for bring that to my attention. I have had my 4520/400cx for two years and never noticed. Sofar that has not been an issue with my operations and I loaded a lot of dirt last summer. I could see if you were making a straight down grap with a grapple where it would be nice to know it in advance so you can plan work.
