I use to use it on my boat and my cars. But on my cars after about a year I noticed this film/hazing on the top of my vehicle. I could do nothing to get it off. A friend of mine told me he had the same thing on his van. About 6 months after he was using it he had a film on the top of his van that he could not get off. So he quit using it also. Since them Rain X has come out with a new version so I don't know if it is the same or if the same problem exists. Otherwise I loved it as you didn't even need your windshield wipers on in a rain storm.

I discovered the joys of RainX while on a trip once. My wiper motor failed on the trip home and I pulled into a Walmart parking lot. It was a holiday and no chance of getting it fixed that day. I was going to try and lay a coat of wax on the windshield to drive the rest of the way home. One of the sales guys told me about RainX so I tried it. It allowed me to drive the remaining 4 hours home without wipers in the rain.

I use their Windshield Washer solution now and it does the same thing as the solution you have to apply and buff. It is very good.

A friend of mine put it on his van's windshield when we went to FL years ago to "fix" the fact that his wiper motor wasn't working. We travelled from Pgh, PA (more or less) through rain and March fog for a good 12 hours without a problem. The stuff worked better than if the wipers had been working.

It works great during the day !!
But at night you can see a film from each swipe of the blades in the headlights. A little scary, I use it though.great on the shower door at home too.

I've used it for years with good results. I put it on my motorcycle helmet so that when I get caught in the rain, I still have good visibility. I've switched my vehicles to the windshield washer variety. I find the most effective way to use that is as soon as it starts raining, using the washer fluid to put a good coat on, then shut the wipers and let it do it's thing.

Whether you use RainX, or anything else, or not, you get a "road film" on the windshield that causes that problem. I learned to fix that over 40 years ago. With the wipers on, preferably slow, pour a Coke across the top of the windshield. That will clear up the film and glare quicker and better than anything I've ever used. Naturally, it's nice if it's either raining hard enough, or you have a water hose handy, to wash the Coke off the car, but I've never seen Coke do any damage to the finish if it's another day or two before it gets washed.

Bird, your just a mine of information. I've never heard of the Coke trick before but I'm going to have to file it away for future use along with Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum for gophers and self raising flower for grubs and caterpillars.

I've used Rain-X for years and think it's a great product. I treat the windshields every 6 months or so and use their washer fluid. Works good.

Frank, I learned the Coke trick a little over 40 years ago when working nights as a rookie cop. I think all the officers back then knew about it.

Rain-X makes a windshield wiper fluid that is wonderful. Has a lower freezing point than the cheap blue stuff, water balls up and rolls off - almost a good as the original polish-on Rain-X and a lot more convenient.

Use this, and wipe the windshield wipers with bug and tar remover once a month and you're all set.
