Rain,, About time!

Looks like you guys in the DFW area got all the water. I had plenty of thunder at 4:30 this morning, but my digital rain gauge showed only .16 of an inch of rain. I'll take it. I planted my summer food plot on Saturday, so that's a start. Might rain again on Thursday. Sure would like to see a couple of inches come down. Both my ponds are about 2 feet low and summer is coming on quickly!!!!

Arizona chipping in with my :2cents:
First came a major wind storm, 50 MPH +, took some of the roof off. The temps. had been mostly in the high 80's to the low 100's. High dropped to the 50's. First sideways rain, then calm & sprinkle off and on all day. First rain in several months, measured 3/4" when all done.

I had pretty much quit firing up the wood stove or bring wood in. Used up the last and now this AM frost on the ramp.

Need more rain, less wind and I've had more cold than really wanted.:(

Dennis, I had a Bradford Pear tree in the front yard and when one side broke off, I left the tree to recover. Then the other side broke off. With the current problem, what remains of the current tree problem will either take out the fence or seriously damage the storage building if it falls. And it's too tall for me to take down. So I have a call in for a tree service guy who removed a tree for me 5 years ago. I want the tree completly removed, and would like to have some pruning done on 3 more.

I've got to take a hearing aid in to be repaired this morning, and then the job I guess I'll be working on is cleaning leaves out of the rain gutters. And that will have to be done several times, over several days I'm sure, since the roof is covered with leaves and additional ones will be blowing down into the gutters.

Crash, I heard you get most of your rain in July. But wind that takes part of the roof off is not good. Hope the damage isn't too severe.

Hi,
Don't mean to take this thread.
I will have fix or re roof, waiting for it warm up then go look. But it has started leaking.

We normally get some winter rains, It got damp a couple of times this year. Last summer when the big rains came, it rained on all sides of where my place is. We got 2 or 3 half incher's. Pretty normal to get lots of wind and if it rains, most always sideways. Now just the wind and dust. Re named the rain gauge to dust gauge.

Bird,

I was thinking of your Pear tree on the way to Weatherford. Probably the best thing to do is replace him. They grow so fast anyhow.

Hopefully when you get your roof clear of leaves, all looks well.

Eddie,

I figured you would get a drenching too. I canceled a job last night in Nacogdoches because of the forecast and they didn't get squat and I got poorer.

I'm not even going to replace that tree; just want to be rid of it. I was surprised to see how much the wind today cleared the leaves off the roof, but I sure had a job cleaning gutters.

At least I had a little good luck today, too. I expected a hearing aid to have to go to the factory for a $250-$300 repair, but my Beltone lady in Denton (Shirley Green) seems to have fixed it there in the office at no charge.

My tree service guy still hasn't called, but you should see all the trees and/or limbs down in this neighborhood. I reckon anyone in that business is going to stay very busy the next week or two.

So I went to Home Depot and bought a cheap electric chainsaw; figure that'll be a lot faster than using my Makita reciprocating saw.

Bird, your Bradford pears sure seem to take a beating from storms. At least you didn't lose the whole tree this time.

We got 0.7" of rain out of last night's storm and some blessed cool weather. Yesterday, it was 92 and muggy. Today it is blissfully cool and pleasant if also a little breezy. We had no bad wind or hail, just sweet and welcome rain.

I swear that I'm going to stop listening to the forecasts. I've also canceled jobs because of the impeding storm that is supposed to hit and how bad it's going to be, only to have nothing happen all day. It makes me feel like a sucker that got tooken again.
