I have a L4200 cabin tractor and would like to upgrade my current factory radio. I use this tractor mainly for spraying my orchards with an engine drive sprayer so it gets a little noisy and also the am part of the radio has a little static.

Any suggestions?

Mike...
Hello and welcome to a very interesting forum... Where are you located?
I also have an L4200 GST with cab... I replaced my factory radio with a Sony AM FM CD with an aux input for a mp3 player. I also replaced the speakers. Very big difference, I would recommend NOT getting speakers with tweeters built in. You do not need a lot of high frequency in that size cab. I also had a set of 5.5 inch speakers in enclosures that I added on the left and right behind me, on the shelf. Sounds great and I can cut the volume of the top (front) speakers that are aimed right at your head and increase the volume to the rear.
The only thing I would do different if doing over, I would place a resistor in the face plate illumination circuit. It is a little bright if you are operating in the dark. KennyV.

I'm sure this isn't something you were looking for, and I don't even have a cabin on my little BX24 but you mentioned that it would be in a noisy environment anyways, so I use these ear protection headphones with my iPod and find it easier to hear since it drops the outside sounds by nearly 30db therefore you don't need the music or radio on very loud to hear it saving your ears.

Just a thought in a different direction.

Thanks for all the information. I never thought about the headphones but they seem like the best bet when using the sprayer. I'll probably keep the factory stereo for less noisy applications.

I found that the expensive radios don't last up to the ruggid terrian and bumps, I usually just stick to Jesens HD radio because they are made for the bumps and shocks. Its user friendly and the buttons are made for taking a beating comparing to a nice car radio.

Heres Jensens site with all the Heavy duty, they also made headphones for tractor applications.

Just take a look and see what ya think.

I use a pair of Peltor headphones too. Although I must say around here the AM doesn't seem to work that well. One nice feature is you can plug in an M3 player too.

I don't have a cab,but I recommend the peltor's also. Makes tractor time much more enjoyable.

Oh ya, I forgot about those headsets, I actually have the one made by Stihl, only reason is, I got it for free when I bought my chainsaw/cement saw combo from my local Stihl dealer.
