When my wrists were crushed the nerves going through them were damaged. After several surgeries I was asking my doctor if maybe the circulation to my left forefinger was not up to snuff because it was always cold. He said it was nerve damage that kept the finger cold.

Back in the 70s I was shearing christmas trees and lightly tapped my left pointer finger with the blade. It was cut to the bone but it was a clean cut. I bet it took 40 years to finally stop getting so cold. Now I have to watch the one that the wood splitter squished.

I work in public right of ways and cross many yards each day. This results in many conversations. When the injured finger comes up I have been surprised how many other men are missing fingers/finger tips various other hand injuries.

I knew better, I really did!
I did a major no-no & I’m lucky it wasn’t worse.
Was boring 1-1/8 holes in a 2x4 to make a table for mounting my pipe clamps for a glue up station & my hand was pulled into the bit.
The photos tell the story no explanation needed.
No nerve or tendon damage!
Embarrassed & ashamed it happened but felt the need to post this.
I was excited to finally start a project for my daughter in law & just got careless.

On the ambulance we used to say "Do you know why farmers wear bright yellow gloves? It makes it easier for the Paramedics to find the missing fingers."

Had a similar incidence with a Gravely snowblower (manual start) when I was about 14. Chute got jammed, belts squealing. Procedure was to grab a stick, give the blockage a jab. That usually cleaned it quickly and I didn't have to shut it down clear the chute then pull start it.
Stick got tangled in my glove, pulled my hand in, chopped the middle finger on my right hand.
Consider my self lucky. Just broke the bone. Made it to a close young doctor.
Finger swollen up to the max. He drilled a small hole in the fingernail. I stayed up all night picking my clotting blood out of the hole to keep the blood flowing.
Next day Dad drive me to the old Doctor Town in Underhill Vt. He took a look, said "This is going to hurt".
Took some snippers, snipped the nail a bit, then took forceps and ripped the nail off.
Lesson to turn off machinery before inserting body parts.
