Raccoon War

Funny!

I grew up in South-Central Texas. The average temperature might be higher in Texas but the miserable armpit suffocation in NC was definitely worse for me.

One of the awesome things about the USA being so big is there is so much variation.

Hey Luke[SN],

...And here I thought I was the lone sufferer of the dreaded-MASS!

[Miserable Armpit [or in medical-ese Axillary] Suffocation Syndrome]

Upstate NY is also nowhere to spend the summer.

I just can't understand snowbirds coming back here at all- when it warms up here- the humidity is almost invariably elevated to swampy degrees.

Dew-points and humidity levels running just below the ambient outdoor temperatures.

I envy folks who can cool their houses with "swamp coolers"- here, the water would never evaporate.

After almost 60 years of it, I'm finally going to break down and buy a window A/C unit for our bedroom- one with a dedicated dehumidify-only setting, so when its in the 60's outside and the dew-point is 59, I can finally sleep.

The only thing I find worse than 90's and muggy/damp is cool, sticky and damp- when the air is so heavy even fans don't help.

Then it got to the roof, and they trapped it- it says they're going to release it again later today.

Interestingly, the article said that the animal control company could only release it on public land if they got permission, but didn't say that about releasing it on private land.

So I guess trap and release to make it someone else's problem is fine, if you're paid for the job?

Y'all are ruining my idea of how nice the weather must be else where. Guess I'll just keep enjoying our two seasons here in Texas.

I have two racoon stories.

I used to own an outdoor paintball field. One busy Saturday, probably 100 customers, a clearly rabid coon wandered into the picnic area. I had to get rid of it, and being in NJ at the time, no pew pew allowed.

I had my employees herd all the customers to one side, and I vanquished the foe with a 6' piece of pipe. It was the only usable weapon I could find. It took more hits than it should have to finish him off. I stopped after about 5 when I realized I must have looked like a lunatic smashing the raccoon with this huge pipe, taking full overhead swings.

Second story is a lot easier. Two raccoons took up residence under my house. I put out a bowl of cat food. They both died from lead poisoning.

In the movie, Incredibles 2, the baby fights a racoon. I was LOL the entire time.

The raccoons have been on a rampage lately in our area;bird feeders and anything eatable.Trapped a couple recently, next door is up to 11 !.I have electric fence around my bird pens to keep them out of there.

Agree ... quicker is better
Standard Velocity .22LR is subsonic, does not have the crack of HV rounds.

Here it’s squirrels. I spray the top part of the iron rod the feeder is on with silicone lubricant. Quite amusing....

Urban raccoons are beautiful: very well fed.

I will take 0' F over 90' anyday.

They both suck. I’d take the 90 though. I’ve at least got a few hours in the morning of pleasant weather in the summer time. If it was zero ( we usually get 2 weeks of single digit temps a year) then I’m inside until it warms up.
