R4 vs. R1 rant

On my 955, R1s are on 16" wheels and the R4s are on 16.5" wheels.

I'm not in a position to argue whether or not you've still got the original (standard) 11.2-16 rear tires. But what I will ask is the width. Do you actually think you're going to seal a wide R4 bead on a narrow R1 rim?

I do have brand new 11.2-16 R1's and a beat up pair of 12-16.5 R4's. The wheels for the R4's are wider than the wheels for the R1's.

Well... That was my point. Will it get the job done. Yeah. Does it suck. Yeah

Most CUT owners are going to find R4's superior for their needs doing dirt work, FEL work, mowing, driving on the lawn, etc.

Most people are not running in the slop or doing serious tilling with a CUT...... not what the machines are designed or marketed for......

I do like the R-4's over the R-1's I used to have. I notice some more slippage on wet woods ground compared to the R-1's, but really like the extra plys in the R-4's for woods work. Have had no problem in 13 years with thorns getting through the R-4's, whereas lots of problems with in the same woods before. 95% of the time, don't need chains in the winter snow but they are great when needed.
Don't have deep mud, but also notice the R-4's track less mud than R-4's. That part I really like and going across the lawn leaves less imprint with the R-4's. So R-4's are not a compromise for me, but the best tire for the work that I do with my CUT.

They also make some wider stiffer r1's that might be able to fit on your existing rims and the extra money they cost could be offset by not having to buy rims.
