Does anyone have R4 tires on a L2600? My dealer says if I want those I have to change tire size and rims. He said he would have to take them off a bigger tractor. Help!

It has been my experience that any time tire types are changed, the wheels will be different too. That's mostly because the tires are not available in every size (like automobiles). Also, if the tractor is 4 wheel drive, the ratio of the rear circumference to front tire circumference must be matched to the gearing in the 4x4 transfer gears.

When I added R1 tires to my B2400, I received new rims and tires. The R1s are about 1.5 inches larger in diameter compared to my existing R4s. The new R1s cost about $620.

...hope this helps.

Thanks. It does help. He didn't mention anything about changing the gears to match the four wheel drive. I need to talk to him about that.

Kubota didn't offer the R4 tire option on the L2600. They were an option on the L3000 although a pricey one. The new L2800 and L3400 both have the R4 optional tires available. Even though the axle on the L2600 and the L3000 looked identical, they were not the same and that was the reason for not having the R4 tire option on the L2600. Hope this helps.

Wait, wait I may have said that improperly. The gears don't get changed. The ratio the gears have between themselves (front axle vs rear axle) is known and must be accounted for when the tires are attached.

That means: a front axle might rotate 3 times for every 1 rotation of the rear axle. This would require a tire set where, if you rolled a front tire on the ground (full of air but not on the tractor), it would need to rotate 3 times for every 1 rotation of a rear tire.

It's no big deal for the dealer to lookup what tires are available for your tractor. The correct tire & wheel sets have already been figured out by the manufacturer. Each correct set (4 R1s with wheels) will maintain the ratio that the 4x4 transmission gears have.

Some owners have gone and figured out their own tire sets. But unless you want a particular tire or particular size, my advice is to go with what the manufacturer has already determined.
