What is Qwic Industries?
Kwic Industries is/was? an importer of Chinese products based in Southern California.
I almost had dealings with them for backhoe parts awhile back, but something just didn't sound right (if you know what I mean).

I posted on another thread that those guys are (were) close to my Rancho home in So Cal. I saw there deals on eBay and added them to my favorite sellers. I even contacted them about some implements I was interested in and perhaps look at a small tractor for Loretta since I could pick it up and the prices were extremely good. (My Kama cost $2,000 to ship back in 2005)
I did notice on about every item I went to, they had that disclaimer which said the real implement (or tractor) may not be the color as advertised and on most items it would be 6 weeks before they got here ready to ship to you.

Well, I didn't like that part so I sent them a message asking if I could stop by to see the showroom. First, it took about 2 weeks to get a reply. They said I could stop by but they might not have the item I wanted in stock. ??? Needles to say, I never went down there.

They are fairly close so perhaps I can drive down there to check it out? But first, I'm going to send another message to see if they even reply. I'll bet they are gone. Their website shows nothing now, where it was a giant advertisement before. Their feed back was terrible anyway and That's why I wanted to go in person. I figure I could buy on the spot and haul it with me, but that's not going to happen.

Fortunately, I didn't. I take it you did?

Nope! I didn't bite the poison fruit. I just wouldn't trust a dealer that says pay now and get it later. Either it's in stock or not. Hence the term "Cash and Carry" :D

That's the way a lot of the non-stocking dealers/importers operate (China Best is another example). They use your money. No capital outlay for them. Once you pay up front they have already made their profit......no waiting involved (for them).

Well I went there on Columbus day just to see for myself. Great big office with just 1 desk in one of the back rooms. Actually talked to the owner I guess. Asked him about some stuff and he said that he was having problems with customs. Said that he wouldn't have anything until Dec. I asked about not getting any responses from my phone calls or Emails and his response was that he was a 1 man show and that he couldn't do it all. The whole place seemed odd to me, big office, why? I would guess 4000-6000 square foot leased shop & office in a new industrial complex. Big overhead + no product = out of business in this area. I've seen this to many times, people don't pencil out what it takes to be in business and lose everything. Just over whelmed would be my guess.

We are talking about Kwic Industries Inc, right? As of this time their website is up.
Click on the column on the left and you get pics and prices of the items.

I don't know these guys at Kwic, but I do know a few guys he competes with that sell Jinma. Kwic's prices were really low and he didn't do the extensive setup needed to make a Jinma a decent tractor. They all said "he can't continue at these prices and service levels, it just won't work". They were right of course.

This is not too unusual, a "dealer" will come along with a flashy website and super low prices and people will flock to him. As his profits aren't enough to actually sustain a business, he starts to go under. (again, I don't know the Kwic guy at all, so this is just general experience) Then he takes orders in advance with a deposit. Then he requires a huge deposit, maybe 50%. Then he requires 100% paid up front....you see the guy needs to make his payments on his building, his truck, payroll taxes, income taxes, utilities, vendors, etc. So he gets in a bind and uses the deposits to pay these things, not to buy tractors. He sees through rose colored glasses and feels success is right around the corner, so often a guy like this actually doesn't think he is doing wrong. Then it all comes tumbling down. I've seen this several times with Yanmar's also.

The moral of the story, buy from a reputable dealer. You'll have to pay a little more. Buy what is already in stock, or if it has to be ordered, you normally do not have to put down more than 10%, unless it is some real special item that the dealer otherwise would not stock.

Just some thoughts.

If you look, most of these negative feedbacks are for items that state in the auction, "4 to 6 weeks" delivery. I wonder how many people even saw that? I am not defending the guy, I don't know him, but many times people start complaining and hit the negative feedback button real quick.

Have any of you heard anything new about this dealer? I see their website is still up and (apparently) taking orders Kwic Industries, Last stop shop for high-quality,diesel genteratos, propage generators, external fuel tanks, concrete pumps, transer switches, switch gear, electric motors, forklifts,

I was wondering if they worked out the situation with all the people with undelivered items (there was an $80k one on Ebay!). If they didn't, they shouldn't still have that page up. We should find out what's going on so people make can informed decisions before placing orders through their website.

Cheers,

G

I would stay away from them even if they were half priced and every order came with a dingy blond.

Ha ha, that's a given!! I am not considering buying anything from them...not even a blond! ;)
I just came across their website today and I figured I would see if someone else knows what is going on with them, so potential buyers can be well informed via this forum.
If they have not fixed their issues we should probably contact the BBB to see if their website can be closed.

It shows a $2500 loan for 36 months at 80%...a mere payback of $6660. Do people actually do such things? Hard to believe.
