One of the ASTM tests that is used pretty much for all clear fuels is to take a fuel sample in a one quart masonry jar. Let it settle and then twirl/swish the jar. Look at the bottom center for any water or sediments swirling.

Quart jar, twirl & swish, look for sediment.......... sort of reminds me of our old home brew distillery days:laughing:

Similar, it's pretty much how a simple test for all clear fuels in the lab. One of many tests. One that was so important that the ZDCSS inspectors always wanted to witness it. Great test for contamination.

We had to do that daily from the sumps on our jet fuel and av gas trucks at the airport.

Years ago when they used to stick the 10,000 underground fuel tanks at work, they had a paste they put on the stick that would show water in the bottom tank, by changing color. After reaching a certain level, they would bring in a company, to pump the water out.

Yep. Its called water finding paste. We had to coat the dipstick end with it and record how many inches turned purple or green (I can't remember) every day at the fuel farm.
