Quick Hello from Montana

Found my way to this site while researching tractors and available attachements. I currently have a 26 hp lawn tractor with a 54" deck. Looking hard to replace it with 4x4 preferably diesel tractor with a similiar or larger size deck. I also would like a front end loader, rear PTO, and implements such as snow blower and broom. Looking at used currently, Kubota BX series or similiar John Deere.

If anyone has any input on things to watch out for, models or brands to steer clear of, or suggestions on some that I should consider, please let me have it. Any discussion along these lines would be appreciated.

BTW, I currently mow about 3 acres, with another 7 I would like to be able to mow/hay. I have some fairly hilly terrain, thus the need for 4x4.

Mowing and haying--I'd begin by looking at the implements you're going to need for your tractor's jobs. Generally, the heaviest and/or highest pto horsepower implement will size your tractor. Once you have this information, you can go tractor shopping with confidence.

Remember that you're buying a tractor and also entering into a business relation with the dealer who sells it to you. Check out his service and parts departments to be sure that they can handle any maintenance/repair needs that may arise. Also establish the dealers policy for transporting tractors to and from his shop when you need this service. Generally, you should try to buy from a local dealer (within 100 mile radius). My Mahindra dealer (Dave's Tractor in Red Bluff, CA), for example, is about 30 miles away, has an excellent parts and service department and is a West Coast distributor for Mahindra. So he has a large operation with a lot of new tractor inventory on his lot at all times.
