My dealer finally finished installing the Gearmore grapple hydraulics kit for my Eagle Talon. They did a nice job (Guess they knew I would complain if they didn't /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Man this grapple is HUGE. It weighs in at 1050 pounds X 72" wide. It's made out of 3/4" thick steel!

The dealer commented I could start my own Halloween horror show with it, as the thing looks like a monster with teeth when the grapple is opened up! It looks like it could pick up a VW and toss it around or eat it!

I tried it out today and it is THE THING for removing sage brush type vegetation. It uproots the brush. Then when full you close the jaws, shake out the dirt and load the truck. It's slick. I would recommend Quick Attach products. Well made and the salesperson treated me fair.

As My Borgford grapple has just shown up at my dealer, could you please elaborate regarding the Gearmore grapple hydraulics kit?

I was planing on using Kubota's foward control but would be interested in what else is out there.

Do you think the Talon grapple is to large a grapple for the L39? Did it seem to cut into the machines lifting capacity noticibly?

The Borford I got is smaller and about 800 LBS.

The Gearmore setup looks to be a good unit. I have not seen any other, so I have nothing to compare it to. As for the Talon being too large for the L39, I calculated that I have 1250 pounds of lift capacity left. As I ordered the Talon for the L48 I was going to buy, if I had to do it over again I would have bought the lighter weight unit from Quick Attach called the Quick Claw for the L39. The reason I liked the Talon is you can use it to debrush, where the Quick Claw is more for lifting brush that has already been piled up.

The Egale Talon looks like it could easily fit a full size commercial TLB. The Borford is a Mini Talon. 3/4" and 1" plate but 5.5' wide with 42" jaw opening. I imagine the Talon can open way wider. Is it 72" Wide?

Can you post digital pictures? I would especially appreciate seeing the valve, pumbing, and controls.

Is your grapple control a diverter, i.e you loose a loader funtion when operating the grapple or a direction (Full 3rd Function set-up?

If you give me your Email address I will send you a picture of the setup. I have never been able to download pictures to this site. As for the setup, when I push the button on the knob it changes the hydraulic function from the bucket to the grapple. (If that makes any sence) I can still raise and lower the FEL when operating the grapple jaws. Yes the grapple is 72" wide. It's made out of 3/4" T1 steel. The jaws are 1/2" T1 steel.

Mike, you might want to take a look at www.wrlonginc.com for another hydraulic kit option. People here on the forum have been happy with them and they run less than the Kubota kit.

I had the L39 picked up today to have the front remotes and Borgford Grapple added. I am not going to shop and stall as I will be using the machine in the next few weeks after mud season.

I have lots of road Clearing, rock moving, rock wall building, soil raking and loom sorting ahead, and that before I get serious! I want to bring in a few Tri axles of 3/4 stone to add more gravel and level a large turn around area and make a place to set up the 27.2 ft Shasta trailer I dropped off on the site. Camping and working/playing on the week ends will commence right around black fly time. This will be a long project. I would certainly not want less machine than the L39, in fact more would be nice.

I post Pics of the BH buck reinforcements, my tool boxes, and the grapple/valve set-up in the next few weeks.

Here's a pic of our L-39 with the 66" ANBO heavy duty grapple installed, it weighs 850 pounds.

It indeed DOES look like a Space Alien monster!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got the 66" instead of the much heavier 72" and I do not believe that there is any difference in functionality between the two.

The Grapple decision was a tough one.

I went with the Borgford new design that the lower part of the grapple is shaped more like a dozer blade and the top is more "shark tooth" than the Anbo. Given the "Soil" I am working in and the capacity of the L39, I think that will work the best. I give up some jaw opening with the Borgford copared to the Anbo. What big teeth you have, grandma?

Mike,

Try to imagine how useful the L39 will be long term.....Yes, a larger machine would be nice for the really heavy stages, but once they are complete you'll always have a useful and productive tractor that hasn't outgrown it's welcome. -Just a thought.
