I'm sure that's your problem. Keep that valve completely open ccw, and control the drop rate with the little red handle under the seat.

I don't have a little red handle under the seat. I only have the big round one.

Eddie,

Not exactly sure on your tractor...but there should be a small (about 5/16") stem valve with a roll pin handle. Sometimes easy to overlook as part of the upper case housing. Often the roll pin can be broken or missing, but that is the valve that controls the speed of the implement.

Mark, I see what you're talking about on my YM-1700, but I don't have one on my YM-2020.

I have an extra lever by the lift lever, as in the picture, do you happen to know what this lever is for?

Now that is interesting....that very well could be it. Similar to the "F" and "FX" models?? I just know your tractor has got to have one somewhere /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Also agree with Norm about the implement lock partially open starving your pump.

Someone will hopefully chime in and straighten us out.

On the new John Deere tractors, made by Yanmar, the knob not only stops it, it is used to control the speed of the drop. Could they have done this on the later Yanmars?? If so it wouldn't have anyother lever for control. One of the dealers should know.

The extra lever is draft control. It is used to maintain a depth level when plowing. You have to have linkage to make it work. To date I have never had a tractor with the linkages to make it work. I have had some with the electric over hyd. that would work.

The YM-1700 has both. I think on it, the big knob only controls the rate of drop.

Right now I'm modifying the seat bracket for another seat, when I finish that I'll check it with the big knob wide open.

With the big knob fully open it still sounds as if the pump is starving at high RPM's

Did you clean the hydraulic screen? Do you have the correct hydraulic filter?

Yep, cleaned the screen, and have proper filter.

I tried to reach up in the hole and clean the inside which had some sludge looking stuff, couldn't reach it all. Wonder if it picked up some more stuff and partially stopped the screen again????

"When you're mowing do you lower your rpm's to raise the mower turn around?"

Always, I can't imagine keeping the revs up on the tractor when it stops any more than I would on a stick-shift car. For all I know, my 3ph behaves the same as yours under the same conditions. I can't get to the tractor for a while or I would try it.

Just on a lurch I put the old filter back on and it works fine now /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I guess the NAPA 1229 just didn't have enough flow for it. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

They may work on a bunch of tractors, or I may have gotten a bad one, but it is quiet and quick at all rpm's now. I even mowed about a half acre to test it. I don't have to worry about moving my FEL over on it now. (That is after it gets a nice paint job.)
