Questioning TC29D's power

Okay, you stumped me. I can't find any reference to a "smoke valve" in my manual or parts diagram. I have the owner's manual, maybe you read this in the shop manual? Photo please? Glad you got more power.

I'm new to diesels, but I've heard of turning up the fuel pump, which is what those instructions are for. Never heard it called the "smoke screw" before, though.
