John Deere 5400, LX280
I'm looking at a very nice used 5400 that I think is about 10 yrs old. Can anyone tell me which character of the ID# denotes the model year of the tractor?

Thank You

If I remember right John Deere starts out with a new series of numbers each year. So there is no single designation telling you the year. I did a search on the web and could not find anything on the 5400. Maybe some other John Deere guys can tell you. If not a local dealer would be able to help you. Looks like the 5400 they started making it in 1992.

This what I found. 1994 should start with a 3, following the sequence of the other years.

Year Beginning Serial #
1992 130001
1993 240000
1994 ????
1995 440274
1996 540001
1997 640000
