QUESTION: Turf Tires, what are good at?

Will the turfs do ok (any better or worse) than R4's while tilling & plowing?

I till with a 5' tiller and I don't think tires matter much as it is at a slow speed and not much pulling. If I was plowing dirt, like using a 2 bottom plow, I would like to use ag tires. It is what they are made for. I use a 7' rear blade to plow snow on level ground. The tires are not loaded and use 4x4 about half the time when the front tires start to plow when turning on greasy snow.

I'd say as a rule no. If it was pretty dry, turf might do as good, but if its wet even a little, the tread of the turfs tend to load up and stay plugged up.

I'm with dodge man on plowing. I had a Bolens G152 with turf tires and it was terrible at plowing. Don't know if I should blame the 2-WD or the turf tires it had. My current TYM233 (4 WD) has the R-4s and it will plow or pull through anything without slipping. I don't have or do snow work, so can't comment on that.

This is true...I have Turf tires on my NH...and they are great for everything until there is mud and when the treads load up with mud they just spin...same with any tire though...just takes a bit more mud to load them up...but I have seen R-4's loaded with mud so they were smooth...and stuck.

Biggest difference I've noticed between R4s (on 1025 now) and R3s (turfs on my 4010) is the R3s bite better in turns. The R4s seem to have a bit more grip on lawn/dirt forward/reverse. You put the major part of those bars perpendicular to the turning circle you're trying to make, you're screwed, even on pavement. If my front R4s give me any trouble whatsoever on this 1025, I'm buying a couple of R3s to replace them. The R3s will chew up dirt/grass more on the turns because they grip and will rip grass.
