Tractor
Kubota L4740 sold. As of Jan 2023 I have a new L2502.
I found the hydraulic rubber cover off my tractor (L4740) HST tractor. It was off overnight during a bad storm. I blew out one driveway that night. I noticed in the morning that it was off. There was no snow build up around the 1 inch port hole where you put the hydro fluid in. My oil and filters was just replaced 70 hours ago in November. I hate to spend the $400 and redo it if I do not have to. Can I just drain a bit of hydro fluid out because the water should be sitting on the bottom.

I actually found the cover in the morning. I put it on and had to go blow snow for 7 hours. The tractor worked flawlessly. Maybe it was my imagination but there may of been a small difference in the sound but it worked flawlessly. I cannot see more then a 1/4 cup of water getting in.

Should I just drain a bit of oil because the water would be on the bottom. Should I replace all fluid and filters. What is your opinion on this.

Check the fluid level. If noticeable increase then loosen the drain plug after they unit has set overnight. The water may settle in a different place other than near the drain.

Is the fluid looking milky after operating? If so then there is to much water in the fluid and needs to be removed.

I changed my hydo oil today and I stripped one of the fittings. Part is on order. It's covered up with trash bags and towel. Not much else I can do.

if milky, would you replace the filters as well?

If it's worth the trouble to save money, you can get the water out of the oil by boiling it. I used a cheap 2 gallon stainless pot on an electric hot plate in an open area. You have to shield it from the wind since it's winter. Get it up to about 230F and the water will be gone.

Oil is quite expensive, no use throwing out almost new oil.

Drain about 3 litres. Looked clean so I dumped it back in. Think I am ok. For some reason there was little stones in the tub at the end of the day. Not sure when and how they got there. I am hoping that they got into to container after I dumped the oil back into the tractor. If not the filters better do there job

I'm not a guy that changes oil and filters just to be doing it, but in your case yes I think it would be money well spent. If for no other reason, just to get the water contained therein out of the system.
