I was looking at a PDF printout that compares the M6040 series to some other manufacturers and have a question on something I saw. When looking up the weight, it lists it as 4,079 lbs for the open station.

In the right column that is the "kubota advantage" section, it lists...

"Lighter psi ground compaction. Field ready at 180% base weight for heavier work"

What does this mean?

"Lighter psi ground compaction"- I think they are saying it is lighter so it will not compact the ground as bad other tractors in its class. I don't know about the field ready part.

Maybe Kubota is saying that if you want to use that tractor in the fields for farming, that it should be ballasted 180% of it's base weight. In other words, if you are going to use the tractor, it needs to weigh 7342lbs. Makes sense to me, more weight, more work can be done. But then there are others that totally disagree with that scenario. :confused3:

I'm inclined to agree with MtnViewRanch, everything around here in the fields has added weight of some sort, often combinations of weights.

I never really looked at that before but it is something that you can add 80% of the original weight to the tractor and they would still handle it!

That is exactly what I got out of reading it. The "advantage" is you start out with a lighter tractor for low compaction if you need that, but can be ballasted for field work. If you started out with a heavy tractor to begin with, then you would not have that advantage. Marketing people do not always make thing perfectly clear.

It's like bring your own beverages (BYOB) but with weights.

Yup. its saying that you can add 80% of the machines weight in ballast, where you need it, depending on your application.

That makes sense. At first I didn't think it meant to add that much weight because I thought it sounded like it would be too much, but I guess not. I suppose the FEL would be a good chunk of that weight needed as well.

Thanks for the answers fellas.

Does Kubota offer a 540E option? More specifically on the M7040? (I imagine the 5040,6040, and 7040 all have the same available option)
If not, did they come with the option of a 1,000rpm PTO? Is operating a 1000rpm pto at 54% of the rated engine speed for 540, essentially the same idea as a 540E? In other words is it okay to do that, and would it be effective?
