Hi,
newby here.
Jusk asking anyone that knows any alternatives on a different make of Hydraulic Suction Oil Filters for JD 3320. Checked price for new filter from local JD dealer and was looking at a price of $100. Its just a filter, right?
Should the price not be a big deal? Or am I over reacting? Just thougnt maybe they be different filters out there that wont steal my lunch monery.:D

On the belief this you are talkng about a "strainer" type fabric or woven metal filter, the idea is to just wash it out in diesel fuel and put it back in. Maybe change the "O" ring in the cover. That's all there is to it.
If you damaged it, JD does indeed like to get pricey with the stuff you don't normally have to replace.

Thanks for the reply.
I believe the filter is made out of woven metal mixed with fabric, and it's located underneath the machine behind a 4-6 inch cap. I had asked my dealer weather I could wash it, and was told to not to. That the filter is non washable. But I didn't mention washing it with diesal. Is it normal for many people to clean their hydraulic suction oil filters with diesal? I would sure like to take your advise insted of paying for a new one.
Thanks again.

I believe this is a spin on filter isn't it? You will have to buy the replacement. My 3320 is near 100 hours so I will probably need one also. JC

I have a JD 790 which is a Yanmar engine. I am not familiar with your exact tractor but I have been at this for a long time with many different tractors.
I'll bet you have two filters.
One would be a spin-on cannister type located under the tractor probably somewhere near where your feet would be on the left and be for the hydro steering. This is a throw-away cannister filter.
The sump strainer is a metal mesh screen similar to what you describe and is located under a three?-bolt cover on the transmission, probably on the right side of the rear of the tractor just forward of the rear axle. I have not seen one with cloth? "fabric" on it as you describe.
I have never known other than to wash a mesh filter with diesel and re-install using a new O-ring. I have been cleaning them--from factory instruction--for a long time. Something is mixed up here in descriptions or information.
You need to get an owner's manual and see for yourself. Don't trust third hand info.
You can look one up on the Deere site for FREE but you should have one anyway. Please advise how you make out with this.

Forgetaboutit.

If you are talking about the hydro filter I wrote about here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/jd-owning-operating/109208-85-00-hydro-filter-3320-a.html

This is a JD only part. I got mine for $85.00. I think the best advice I got after the fact was to look at a filter pack, which has an oil filter, fuel filter, and perhaps another filter or two along with this little gem for a package price.

Best of luck.
