I saw a post on this(or a similar) forum in which someone was asking about why their front tires were digging in while turning. I have this problem on one side also. If I remember correctly, you said a possible reason could be bad wheel bearings. I checked mine and sure enough there is quite a bit of play when I try to move the wheel. My question is: Is there anything special I have to do for this repair eg., anything have to be pressed in or out, any special problems I need to know about? There is nothing in the IT manual for this repair so I assume it is fairly straightforward. The tractor is a 1963 Ford 4000. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, mark

Ya might see if it is a preload adjustment issue.. otherwise you need to jack and support front, pull wheel, then pull hub covers, spindle nut ( may be loose!.. and causing problems! ) then pull hub.. there are thrust bearings and cups... 3 jaw snatcher will remove cups.. or you can weld them out.. the seal is a bugger.. but not any more than anything else on these old tractors.. check spindle for wear.. repalce bearings/cups if needed.. greas.. reseal. reinstall..etc.

Might check a fo-20 manual.. etc..

This will be one of the easier repairs you can make on your tractor...

( harbor freight sells cheapy race puller, and bushing driver set.. bushing driver can be used to seat races.. course.. so can small lengths of correct OD pipe.. or large sockets.. etc.. )

Thanks for all the good info, Soundguy. I'm sure it will be useful when I do this. Don't know quite when I'll get to it since I only see 'Ol Blue' only once a week. But when I do, if I run into any snags I'll check back with you. Thanks again.
