What is the pressure you keep your well tank at? I have a 100psi tank but am not too sure what the pressure should be set at. Also what should be the gap in pressure from when the well pump turns on to when it turns off. Mine is at about 20 pounds difference. Say if the pressure is at 60psi and I turn on a fawcet, by the time it gets down to 40psi to turn the tank on the water pressure has dropped bigtime. Should it be around a 10 pound difference? Thanks for all the help.

20# differential is pretty normal, as is 60/40 ..even a little on the high side. I would try 70 as a max and adjust in tandem with the span adjustment to see if you can achieve a 15 differential. 70/55 would probably do well for you. Be sure to adjust your empty tank air precharge to about 50 so you will have a decent drawdown volume between cutoff and cuton.

Mine runs 60/40, no problems at all...Are you having issues with these settings?

I'm at 60/40 too, and it works OK. I was at 50/30 but had low pressure from the kitchen tap. The plumber said this is a common complaint with the new water-mizer faucets.
What happened was apparently my neighbor came over to wash his horse and changed the settings. I got out to the land today and noticed that the guage was pegged at 100psi. I started to let out the pressure when the pump kicked on at 80psi. I wasn't too sure where the original settings were set when I had it put in. Kinda pissed me off when I saw the guage. The only issue I seemed to have was when I got it down to 60/40 it just really lost pressure when it got close to 40 to turn the pump on.

...Is this well in a house or barn?Anyway, there would be a drop at 40psi, but in a residential setting this isn't an issue. If you're running high CFM water out of 1" lines in a barn, 40psi would be noticable.

The well isn't inside anything. We just had it put in this past summer on our land that had nothing on it. It has one fawcet right right at the well which is where the horse got washed. I also have pipe run over to our 5th wheel that we keep out there for weekend use. Electric was put on the summer before. Slowly we're doing things to eventually put a house out there.

Ok, that makes sense. You really have no back pressure from the usual 1/2" water lines. I'm assuming the faucet is on a bigger line than that.
No expert, but you could try 60/50. Not sure I'd go much higher than that though. Don't want to blow a line out with no one around.
If you're hooked up to the 5th wheel from time to time I'd stay at 60/40 and run your outside water from the RV's hose bib. Should equilize the pressure.

Most tanks have air over a water bladder. This keeps the air from being absorbed by the water which finally would result in no air left in the tank to act as a spring to push the water out. Normally the air pressure precharge is set slightly below the cuton pressure with no water in the tank. When the pump comes on the bag fills compressing the air around it. For max water delivery per fill cycle you want the precharge very near but below the cuton pressure. When you raise the water pressure setting without raising the precharge you wont get as much water delivery between run cycles... but, much worse, you may overfill the bag and burst it. In some tanks the bag can expand enuf to fill the tank and prevent this. Hope yours is that way, otherwise your horse washer may have popped your bag when he upped pressure to 100#.
