Guys we need your input:

this topic came up on another thread but was never settled..... i don't know if it pertains to all, some or just select kioti models.....

Should the clutch be used to engage and also dis-engage the rear and mid ptos ?

there was much conversation with different opinions but the rattle noise ( i hear it upon rear pto dis-engage using the snow blower) and potential damage issues are still a concern....

thank you in advance for your professional opinions and thought on the subject...

duplicate post... sorry...

I use the clutch on my CK25. It's a live PTO. No noise to speak of when using my PHD or chipper. And that chipper will continue to spin like for 5 minutes or more after you disengage it. I do, however, disengage via the PTO lever right after clutching (always from idle) on the chipper. I have never clutched at full throttle though. Highest has been about 1600 rpms on the PHD. And I've done this a lot as part of standard hole drilling: drill down - stop - raise -spin to clear dirt..... and then repeat.

That is a over running clutch...the more you hear it the more you wear it out.
Pull the lever out and your good.

I always now clutch to to engage pto only. But that is not when it is clackity. The clatter occurs as you disengage. I just found out on this forum that it doesn't hurt a thing to disengage PTO for using a CK20 (s) HST and attached blower powered by PTO by just shhifting PTO switch out and use no clutch. Tried it today and it works with no clatter.

With the blower and grass cutter am I correct that I should not be using the clutch to engage or disengage the pto, it does make a noise when putting the clutch in as the momentum in the blower and grass cutter continues running, no damage as I know of but when coming to a place where I have to stop, before putting the clutch in I should disengage the pto with the clutch out, I'm sure the pto has to be engaged before the clutch is let out

No! Always use the clutch to shift in and engage PTO. To disengage throttle down and simply switch out of pto drive with no clutch. Disengage only.

Would you shift gears in your car or truck without using the clutch?
I think you will answer the question that way.

Why else would the factory install a clutch?

Also disengaging without clutching will probably lead to rounded gear teeth with time, especially since PTO gearing are not syncro gears.
Remember the old cars?
