I think I have made my mind up, unless I hear something different here. I think I am about to buy a MF 1440 Power shuttle or Agco ST40 (which I belevie are the same tractor)

Does anyone out there own one? If so what are its good and bad points?

What a fair price for the tractor, no loader?

Thanks for your time

I have a MF 1440. I really like it. Before the MF 1440, I had a MF 1250 and the 1440 is much more user friendly and better built. You can get to everything a lot easier. The floor just un-pin to remove. The entire hood raises up to access the engine. The fuel filter has been moved out of the nose and is easier to get to. I don't know what to tell you on a price, I did some trading around on somethings for mine. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

A 1440 with power shuttle sounds like a very good choice. Our dealer in Reno seldom has MF machines to look at, but I did see one once and came away impressed. If I was going to buy a new tactor it would be high on my list.

Jerry, its interersting that the 1440 has a removable floor, I wasn't aware of that. I've wondered about the need for floor removal on my 1240, what would be involved. I presume my 1240 is close to the 1250 you had, curious if you had any problems or knew of any issues with that series. Mine is almost new and so far I like it a lot.

Doing a little pricing today, I can tell you that I will not get a Agco ST40. To my shock, the ST40 is about $1500 higher than the preorder price of the new model Agco ST41 that will come out in a few months.

What is even more crazy is the fact the ST40 is $2000 higher than the MF 1440. And its the same tractor, other than paint and decals.

I could undestand if there was a few hundred dollars difference, but $2000, that crazy.

Both are AGCO owned, it does seem they want to sell any of the AGCO line. Being fair I need to say that they are different dealers too, maybe the Agco dealer just wants to make more money. But they are less than a mile apart for each other. I can tell you one thing, I will not pay $2000 for orange paint and different lettering.

As far as I know there is no major reoccurring problems with the 1240-1260 tractors. The platform is a major job to remove in my opinion on the 1200's. The 1400's have a three piece floor-pan. Most of the service work can be done by unpinning the side sections. The only think that I might want to change on the 1240 would be the seat. The 1250-1260's have a much easier ridding seat. BTW, The power shuttle is fantastic.

Jerry- Thanks, it did look like a big project to remove the platform. Would there be any reason though? I don't see any service points under there, major repairs would seem to be the only reason, am I wrong?

I swapped the factory springs out on my seat for softer ones, it made a big difference.

re: 1440, the one I looked at is what sold me on MF in the first place, seemd to me like a lot more tractor for the buck than the other brands. I've owned 'power shuttle' type machines before, and you're right its nice. To me, a 1440 with the power shuttle would be the ideal small tractor. Sure wish there was more dealer stock to look at.

If the tractor had to be split, the platform would have to be moved. Or, if you were adding aux. hydraulics, it would make it much easier if you could remove the platform. On the service points, there are grease zerks for the clutch and brake pedals, but you can get to them from below.
Before I bought my MF 1250, I looked at JD, NH and Kubota. The MF had the most for the money compared to any of the others.
