I've finally dug out a Woods Brush Bull in the shop and looking at running it to see if it might mow better than the Finishing Mower I've been using. Are these blades bent or that's the way they come? Deck is dented up like someone ran over boulders 20160812_192111_HDR.jpg20160812_193325_HDR.jpg. Want to get an idea whether this thing is safe before I fire it up. Thanks Bob

They are bent. Likely not unsafe, but bent nonetheless. It may cut as well as some finish mowers, but not with those blades. Getting a nice cut with a rotary cutter requires blades that are not dull or in any way rounded off at the outer corner.

You can change the blades through an access panel on the top, much safer and handier than tipping it. Here is a link to the owner's manual and blade change is on page 21. I would also Check the length of the PTO shaft that it fits your tractor properly. Good luck!

Looks better than mine. Like yours, mine has a damaged area on the box area of the frame. The deck may crack there, but nothing a little welding won't fix. Definitely change the blades and check the gear box lube. After that, it should be good to go

Thanks for that. I'll work on removing blades and already drained gear-box lube. Fluid looked pretty good which is more than I can say about the finish mower which the owner left out in the Washington rain and boy does it rain here. Bob

Bob, I will ask what maybe a stupid question. Were these blades mounted upside down? Some blades I see have an offset with the cutting edge facing to the bottom of the deck and not the ground. These do look like they have been beat up, but something about the way they are mounted seems odd. It may be the picture, but the bend in the blades looks wrong. Are the blades sharpened on both sides by any chance? W. Jones

Definitely bent. Those blades have seen a lot of rocks. My Woods BB60 looked the same after years of mowing very rocky trails through my woods. I even had the brake in the box area. I just had it welded up a year ago. While he was at it, the welder noticed that one of the "ears" where the gearbox bolts to the frame was cracked, so he fixed that as well. It's good he caught it when he did, because when one goes, it puts a LOT more stress on the remaining ones.
